Toaster dead šŸ˜’, Toaster recomendations

My toaster has died its final death. So I thought in the spirit of the kettle recommendation thread that first drew me to post in the Monzo community forum I would see what recommendations people might have!

I was thinking about this swanky looking Haier one. I only need a 2 slot one and was looking for something Black or Black/Silver to fit in with my other appliancesā€¦

I have been using a cheap Wilko one for the past decade

I swear by Dualit. Currently have the 4 slice version of this; the previous one lasted 23 years:

We bought cheap matching kettle, toaster and microwave (barely use it, kept in cupboard) from Asda years ago that we still use, the toaster and kettle take forever to boil/toast, really should get new ones.

I have an old Russell Hobbs 2-slot thatā€™s been going for at least 24 years!

I thought they made their toasters in the UK originally, donā€™t see any mention of it being Uk made on the site anymore. Although at least its a UK company which is a plus for it.

I like the look of this one. Should have also said ā€œBagel Modeā€ is a function I want too, so currently itā€™s between this one and the Haier oneā€¦

Bit disappointed that the Philips one I had went kaput almost 2 years after I bought it. I always associated Philips with quality.

I canā€™t help with which toaster to get but hereā€™s a type I would avoid.

We have a see-through toaster. Itā€™s not as cool as it sounds, once you know how you like your toast you just set the number and donā€™t need to see it. Itā€™s more of a gimmick than anything.

I keep seeing adverts for this digital toaster where you pick the type of bread and the colour youā€™d like it to be.

Donā€™t look at the price  - but I imagine this is similar to my see-through one. Way overkill and not really needed.

I saw some of these on Amazon when I did a quick search this morning. The problem with a see through one would be I could see the crumbs and it would trigger my need to clean when I feel anxious and would then annoy me when I couldnā€™t get it looking factory clean againā€¦ :joy:

I was looking for a google home compatible one for peak nerdiness but then realised it serves no useful function having google home compatibility in my toasterā€¦ :joy: :joy:

Itā€™s for people who have more money than sense.

Honestly for me a toaster needs two functions. A knob to set toast-ness, and an abort button if I want it to pop sooner.

Any fancy software stuff just serves planned obsolescence. No smart fridge, microwave, coffee maker or any other home gadget for me, thanks. I can add a smart plug in if needed.

A question, does it have the classic Dualit lever for the toast rather than a sprung one? (as in toast pings out when done vs stays in the toaster but the elements turn off?) The sprung levers always seem to be the point of failure for me with toastersā€¦

This place never ceases to amaze me

I haveā€¦a toaster whichā€¦makes toast. Canā€™t say I think more about it than does it make toast or not tbh.

Absolutely. In that video they quote it as being Ā£350, however itā€™s an eye watering Ā£809.93 on Amazon. It has a decent amount of reviews too!

Edit: itā€™s not sold by Amazon so no surprise that theyā€™re charging that much. I hate Amazon for this (and Tesco are now getting in on the whole Marketplace ideaā€¦ but thatā€™s a different thread).

Depends what you need it for.

I like bagels and I only want those toasted on one side. So for me a Bagel function would be a value add and make my life easier. If I only want one side of the bagel toasted I have to use the grill. Which is extra faff and uses more electricity. So might as well do a bit of research and get something that fulfills my needs.

As with most things in life its a case of horses for coursesā€¦

Thatā€™s fair - I can honestly say Iā€™ve never really thought that deeply about making toast. Maybe thatā€™s the secret of true enlightenment and wealth?

It has a spring lever but a genius design that allows you to lift it mid-cycle without resetting the timer.

Interesting. The Haier one has gone out the window (metaphorically speaking)

Thereā€™s now a mental death match between the Dualit one you linked - This has the Bagel function I desire

or

This one from Sage that has a longer slot which would fit the bread I get off the baker in the marketā€¦

Ninja do one but I have no idea how good it is:

Amazon is doing their Prime sale tomorrow so I would expect a possible discount. They do have the stainless steel kettle + toaster bundle on sale on ninjaā€™s website right now.

I was going to wait until tomorrow/Wednesday to see if any of the hopefuls go on sale. I have a feeling the Philips one that died was bought in a Prime Day offer tooā€¦

We expect a liveblog pls
