My toaster has died its final death. So I thought in the spirit of the kettle recommendation thread that first drew me to post in the Monzo community forum I would see what recommendations people might have!
I was thinking about this swanky looking Haier one. I only need a 2 slot one and was looking for something Black or Black/Silver to fit in with my other appliancesā¦
We bought cheap matching kettle, toaster and microwave (barely use it, kept in cupboard) from Asda years ago that we still use, the toaster and kettle take forever to boil/toast, really should get new ones.
I thought they made their toasters in the UK originally, donāt see any mention of it being Uk made on the site anymore. Although at least its a UK company which is a plus for it.
I like the look of this one. Should have also said āBagel Modeā is a function I want too, so currently itās between this one and the Haier oneā¦
Bit disappointed that the Philips one I had went kaput almost 2 years after I bought it. I always associated Philips with quality.
I canāt help with which toaster to get but hereās a type I would avoid.
We have a see-through toaster. Itās not as cool as it sounds, once you know how you like your toast you just set the number and donāt need to see it. Itās more of a gimmick than anything.
I keep seeing adverts for this digital toaster where you pick the type of bread and the colour youād like it to be.
I saw some of these on Amazon when I did a quick search this morning. The problem with a see through one would be I could see the crumbs and it would trigger my need to clean when I feel anxious and would then annoy me when I couldnāt get it looking factory clean againā¦
I was looking for a google home compatible one for peak nerdiness but then realised it serves no useful function having google home compatibility in my toasterā¦
Honestly for me a toaster needs two functions. A knob to set toast-ness, and an abort button if I want it to pop sooner.
Any fancy software stuff just serves planned obsolescence. No smart fridge, microwave, coffee maker or any other home gadget for me, thanks. I can add a smart plug in if needed.
A question, does it have the classic Dualit lever for the toast rather than a sprung one? (as in toast pings out when done vs stays in the toaster but the elements turn off?) The sprung levers always seem to be the point of failure for me with toastersā¦
Edit: itās not sold by Amazon so no surprise that theyāre charging that much. I hate Amazon for this (and Tesco are now getting in on the whole Marketplace ideaā¦ but thatās a different thread).
I like bagels and I only want those toasted on one side. So for me a Bagel function would be a value add and make my life easier. If I only want one side of the bagel toasted I have to use the grill. Which is extra faff and uses more electricity. So might as well do a bit of research and get something that fulfills my needs.
As with most things in life its a case of horses for coursesā¦
Thatās fair - I can honestly say Iāve never really thought that deeply about making toast. Maybe thatās the secret of true enlightenment and wealth?
Amazon is doing their Prime sale tomorrow so I would expect a possible discount. They do have the stainless steel kettle + toaster bundle on sale on ninjaās website right now.
I was going to wait until tomorrow/Wednesday to see if any of the hopefuls go on sale. I have a feeling the Philips one that died was bought in a Prime Day offer tooā¦
