The Wallet/Bag Discussion

The Bellroy might be what I end up getting for trips abroad instead of the Secrid. But after the Centurion thing I bought I need to stop spending for now  this was meant to be no-spend January.

Having said that, I do need a day pack – something that fits within airlines’ small bag policy, and has some organisation so I can stick small bits in little pockets rather than it being just one big cavernous hole. Anyone using any good backpacks that could tick those boxes?

This aspect of Bellroy I was disappointed with. I only carry 4 cards in the middle, one of them was my old Monzo debit. That looks like it’s been heavily abused even though the entire I’ve had it it’s never even been used. The Flex card is the same.

Whereas the FD debit that lives on the outside is fine. :person_shrugging:t5:

If it wasn’t such a “set” I would offer to pay half of what you spent just for the 2nd card in the set.

I would say that is due to poor Monzo card quality than the wallet.

I like the look of this, although then you:re straying back into proper wallet territory and I prefer the minimal carry of a proper sleeve

If I was to go back to a big wallet I’d go for the Hide and Seek.

I like that, but if I was to go back to a full wallet I’d dig out my Ted Baker dark brown one that has a lovely cosy looking patina to it.

Aged leather just hits different imo

I’ve had a Hide and Seek for a while now and initially liked it very much. After using regularly, I came to thinking that the ‘Hide’ function was a bit of a gimmick really. It’s a useful feature in one sense but in day-to-dau usage didn’t have much practical benefit - for me at least.

The two card slots that saw most use have become ‘stretched/slack/loose’ quicker than I would have expected - and it hasn’t seen very heavy usage - such that when I dropped the wallet one day, one of the cards actually came out.

I carried on using it for a while with one of my daughter’s hairbands around it but that became too much of a faff and I retired it.

Attractive wallet and nice patina but slightly disappointed with it.

I have bought no less than six backpacks. I’m travelling a fair bit more on various airlines this year, and bought backpacks to try and maximise carry on allowance for each (as I never take checked luggage, even if going 1 week+).

Why can’t the industry just agree on a standard size? BA seems the most generous and Lufthansa group have a ridiculously small personal item limit

In my experience the older carriers never enforce the sizes strictly but agree their should be an industry standard.

I well remember the week that FlyBE took it upon themselves to reduce very slightly the size they’d take. They made a fortune on one flight I was in that week as almost everyone got charged when they reached the gate.
