I have the new screen now. Force quit and it was there. It looks nice. I can’t tell what the spending tab looks like as I don’t use starling. Good effort though.
I read this article this morning, I can totally understand the issue from both sides, if you read between the lines he was wanting to send money to a person in Austria to pay their tax bill, call me cynical but this does sound shonky so I can see why the bank wanted to see some proof.
What a lot of people forget is that when you give your money to a bank it becomes their property and you are a creditor to the bank, this is why the amount shows as a ‘Credit’.
I’m pleased to see the steps Monzo have put in place including the locations and trusted person.
There are legitimate frictions and then there are frankly mad restrictions - as in this case. Just jointly agree on record it’s a risk on me and then you don’t have to reimburse me.
The problem is, banks can’t do that. I’ve seen the ombudsman overule a signed waiver and police intervention, when it later turned out to be a scam.
And then you have journalists absolutely helping nobody when they complain about scam intervention.
The shaming of fintech from the media for this ridiculous carry on is coming way too late, and this story rings similar to my experience with Monzo for a much smaller amount
Starling redesign feels like… They are updating the app to use “the engine” they sold elsewhere.
Mine has updated today.
I would guess there’s a set period between the notification showing and you getting the new layout. So, if you were late to get the notification, I guess you’ll be late to get the new home page.
It seems completely random to me, my android phone changed quite quickly over to the new screen but my iPhone is still showing the old one over a week later.
Nexus 5 . Memories.
Nostalgia ain’t what it used to be.
I thought it looked familiar. I had a 6, I think (Motorola).
Fun fact - the Feature Flag and Experiment (RIP) files in the app teardowns are extracted using a rooted Nexus 6!
Back to Starling…
Can you extract the same from Starling?
If the app uses the same basic structure, I could extract it no problem.
Spoiler: I DON’T HAVE A STARLING ACCOUNT!
Starling have had 04-00-40 since at least 2018.
It doesn’t look like they make use of it though.
When I first signed up to Starling I had that sort code.
I remember because I thought it was so close to Monzo so wondered if it had something to do with the legacy of both setting up.
I closed that account and reopened years later with the new sort code.
My account was opened in 2017 and has the 60-83-17 one.
