And my girlfriend’s iPhone 6S can’t edit payments except in specified intervals – if she picks a £12 payment, she can only split it with me £6/£6 or £1/£11 (this is working fine on my Pixel 2 XL). Seems like a poor implementation of a core feature.

You can tap the amount to set a custom amount per person. I have passed the feedback onto the team.
