Nothing irrational about it! Shenmue really changed my life in a lot of ways when I was young. Not to mention, changed the entire video game industry. We would not have open world games without it.
And whilst 3 might not quite have hit the mark compared to the first two, it’s utterly brilliant to have the story continued after so many years of waiting.
The release of 3 brought back my love for gaming, too. I never owned a PlayStation before, and hadn’t owned a console at all since the original Xbox and then the Wii. But I always said that whoever got on board for 3 would get my loyalty. And that turned out to be Sony, so I bought the PS4 and got introduced to so many great franchises like Uncharted, The Last of Us, and Yakuza.
