Santander chat ♨️

Should be free with a Santander card though, or at least that’s what Santander UK tell you.

Only certain accounts I think. It used to be a selling point of 1|2|3. Not sure if 1|2|3 Lite, Edge or Edge Up get it.

EDIT: apparently all adult accounts are eligible:

I’d be inclined to try it and pop a complaint in if the fee is actually charged.

Interestingly I could use Apple Pay on my phone to act as my card, which is how they should work in the UK too

Maybe it could have been free if I had tapped the card? It shouldn’t make a difference

1 euro I could accept, but 7 euros

Well that was a waste of time, you can’t choose at an ATM, it does give you a credit card or current account option, but that’s it, both had a charge of 7 euros

The euronet machines would have been cheaper and they’re known to rip you off

If you do use a/gpay, what PIN do you need to use? I’m assuming that it would ask as it says you tap then enter PIN on that link.

Yes, you still enter your card pin

Second reply said it should be free…. They wanted me to check it again :joy:

Could be free if you use your card then, don’t know as I didn’t bring my card

The ATM may not have been able to identify your card as a Santander one if you used an electronic wallet as x-pay use a token instead.

Yes, but you have to enter your card pin, so in my mind it recognises the card? I should’ve tried to get my balance or something

Correct me if I’m wrong, but it only uses a token if you’re paying on a payment terminal?

I need to do research on how ATMs work with Apple Pay

I’m considering getting a 0% interest on purchases for X months card (can’t remember how many months). Does this just mean I am able to pay just the minimum payment for the entire period of the offer, with the balance having to paid off at the end of the period to subsequently avoid the interest? Is there any downside to doing this way in terms of my credit history/report?

That’s how it works, yes. Personally, I’d only use it for maybe a one-off large purchase and I would actually split the cost over the remaining months so that it’s all paid off by the end of the interest-free period.

No real downside for your credit history so long as you don’t miss any payments.

Ive just got a holiday in a few months I wanna take so considering using it for that. Would help to spread the cost as you say. Just gives more flexibility when to pay it off.

Yep. So long as it’s managed sensibly then it’s a good way to get the equivalent of 0% finance.

And thankfully, I am great at managing money  have all my important payment dates in my calender. Will likely just set up a direct debit for the minimum and just pay off extra when I want to.

That’s what I did when I last had a 0% purchases card.

Another oddity popped up with my Santander Edge card.

I have a coffee subscription which used to take from my AmEx card and I changed it to Santander Edge about a month ago.

They contacted me soon afterwards to say that the payment had been declined and to check the details. I did that (the details were correct) and forgot about it until I heard again last week that it had been declined and to check the details. I shrugged and decided to let it lapse if they couldn’t get their act together.

This morning I received a text from Santander saying that they had declined it (no reason was offered) and to confirm whether or not I had authorised the the payment.

It took about three weeks for them to tell me that they HAD declined the payment, thus letting me believe that Shopify was at fault.
