Running Split Payments Should Update Summary Once Paid Off (Bottom-Up Logic)

I’ve been using Monzo Trends/Summary a lot recently to track my spending, but I’ve noticed a problem: transactions that are part of running splits/tabs don’t appear in my spend summary — even once they’re fully or partially settled.

I understand why this happens (it’s hard to show until repayments are made and amounts might not be even), but I think there’s a way to make it work:

Proposal: In the order that I’ve added transactions to a running split/tab, once enough money has been paid back by others to cover one full transaction (starting from the bottom), that transaction should then appear in my summary as “paid off.”

This way, as repayments come in, the transactions I initially covered are progressively reflected in my spending summary — until the tab is fully even, at which point all my original contributions appear correctly.

This would make running tabs a lot more useful for budgeting, since right now they distort overall spending visibility.

Happy to elaborate or work with the Monzo team on how this could be implemented.

Are you sure the settled transactions not just class as income or general?

Hey Carlo,

Yes, when my girlfriend adds something to our running split it doesn’t mark any of the things i’ve added previously as paid in the summary tab.

To simplify, things I add to running splits never get accounted for in my spending trends, not even when the running split has been paid off.

If you tap the transaction they’re not marked as excluded?

Summary is no longer active, so if it’s not showing in Trends only, you’ll need to speak with monzo through the app to inform them your spending isn’t coming through to Trends.

Splits that are paid off show in trends but running splits don’t. They are not marked as excluded either.
