It clearly is for some.
Seems like FOMO, people don’t have a swanky card, they want swanky card. People see some new app features, they want new features!
Personally I can’t see what all the fuss is about on the account features, particularly people have access to other accounts, and I’d be amazed if people here rely solely on RBS.
Complaint outcome:
They reiterate I am eligible for the travel account and it should be visible, and no impact occurs having a 15-80-00.
I’ve referenced this topic, as mentioned above, the travel account shown once the silly sort codes are removed from account level.
They also don’t see any reason why I receive an error when applying for a credit card within the app which directs me to the web to complete.
With the above in mind, £100 goodwill has been applied for aforementioned issues.
They did request screenshots in their FRL which I’ve sent across. As the issue is not resolved, just thrown a band aid on hoping it’ll go away, it requires further investigation.
I may out of interest CASS out my silly sort code accounts so i’m just left with my standard RBS joint account and see if it pops up, now I have the cards I’m not bothered about the account…
Just requested my move to first direct.
Just moved mine to Starling, see what happens in a week.
@Carlo1460 and @npc_06 There do appear to be some oddities of the C&C account, but it’s not offered by the usual RBS online application process, so to an extent these should probably be expected.
I do feel the more people raise issues about it, and the more RBS staff have to try and resolve them, it’s only a matter of time before someone decides the hassle/cost is outweighing what ever the reasons are for keeping things the way they are.
If it’s a major piece of functionality and it’s a main account you’ve had for years / intent to keep long term, then I appreciate it’s probably worth seeing what can be done, but in this case there appears to be no quick fix, and you both seem to plan to switch away anyway.
Sorry if this seems a bit grumpy, it’s clearly your choice on any next steps, but I know a fair few people on here do seem to enjoy the account, myself included, even if it’s not your bag anymore.
Exactly. I wouldn’t want RBS to patch a quirky loophole or worse, wind down accounts for people; just because some exploit a glitch and then complain that things are glitchy – including links to a forum with extensive discussion about the glitch.
It’s not an exploit when the option is given to choose.
Whatever is broken needs fixing either way.
Or remove the option to give people a choice if it results in half a service off the back of it.
Child & Co will remain, it won’t be force closure for those that have one.
It could just be the manual form causing it, even if I chose my own home town sort code.
Cba to try, but there’s a problem with that journey.
It’s not given to choose though, is it. Not to the everyday customer.
It’s only available to choose if you know how to fish out a link that is for all intents and purposes removed from the internet, but kept alive on the backend for whatever reason.
You’ve not opened an account the way any other ordinary customer would be expected to open an account. Then something doesn’t work, and you go complain.
It’ll just lead to them shutting the route down and then people who don’t mind not having access to a feature they wouldn’t use anyway will not be able to open any more accounts even if they wanted to.
Even so, if something is broken, for the all intents and purposes that link does exist, then it needs to be fixed.
If they aren’t aware of the problem, how can they fix it?
The travel account isn’t the main problem, I cannot apply for credit products properly, which is a problem that needs to be fixed, not pinned down by the child and co sortcode as proven by many here in this thread.
That was the bulk of my complaint. The travel account I won’t even use, but added to the complaint because as explained, something is broken and needs fixing, regardless how I apply.
The products should be the same, without limitation for how one person applies opposed to the other.
If the form solely exists for internal use, then it should be shut down publicly and used for that purpose only.
Hold on a second, at no point have I said I am switching away fully or said I am going to complain to RBS about it.
I, for one, love how folks have resorted to referring to them as silly sort code accounts on the back of this. Who are you trying to convince?
I’m also curious how many of you will be back to ask for the form again, once you’ve acquired your travel account and grown bored of it the very next day when you realise you have Monzo accounts that do the same thing, only better?
But ask yourselves, do you really need or even want the RBS travel account? Will you actually use it? I suspect for most folks here, the answer to at least one of those question will be no. I suspect it’s not but a lust for something new. And a lust for something you can’t currently have, which only makes you want it more. Then it’ll end up unused or in the bin like your silly sort code accounts.
For what it’s worth, the sort code doesn’t restrict you from most things. I’ve successfully applied for credit cards with RBS despite my only accounts having the child&co sort code. Despite commentary above suggesting these aren’t available either.
Child and Co accounts, at this moment, for whatever reason, aren’t eligible for the travel account (I might see if I can dig into why that may be). But really, that’s not missing out on very much at all. I suspect because of the way the travel account works, meaning child and co accounts aren’t seen by the system, the same way that you can’t link them to Apple Wallet for open banking.
I also never said I was opening the travel account and I all ready have an RBS credit card (the travel one funnily enough). I simply said I’d close my silly sort codes because I’m not bothered now I have the card design and would see if that made the tile pop up.
I feel i’m being tied to something I’ve not played a part in lol.
Wasn’t targeted at you. Just a general response to the general census of the thread lately. My first time commenting on the discourse with respect to that issue.
I’d actually meant it as a reply to Carol, but you jumped in before me.
Fair enough lol, the only RBS account we actively use is our joint standard RBS account, the C&Co were a novelty open for the fancy card and the chequebook, which turned out to not be fancy anymore.
Anyways, anyone else think the RBS app is getting a bit cluttered?
I like it but there is a lot going on in all the menus though, not that I click on most of them.
I think that was a throwaway comment from me in response to the people getting upset that they can’t have the latest shiny toy because they had a different (at the time) shiny toy.
