Money talks. I hope with that kind of cash on the table (£3bil), Revolut will finally get its UK banking licence!

The company now serves over 65 million customers worldwide, including 12 million in the UK, and has set its sights on reaching 100 million customers globally by mid 2027. Revolut’s success exemplifies the strength of the UK’s fintech sector, which boasts around 3,000 firms supporting tens of thousands of skilled jobs nationwide.

12 million in the UK :tada:

I think the government and HMT must be very keen on keeping Revolut fully committed in UK (lest Revolut Western Europe becomes more important relative to Revolut UK), and R Reeves is known to push hard for their UK licence (and I think she is absolutely right). It is the BoE or the FCA who are more skittish (which I understand too, maybe the data that they have do show that Revolut is the scammers’ bank of choice).

But should it? Should the licence not be granted on fulfilling the regulatory and mandatory requirements and obligations.

For sure, but showing willingness to contribute such efforts to the UK financial sector is nothing but good work.

Yes of course. But there is a balance somewhere, between business vs regulation. If the UK regulates more strictly than the EU (or the eurozone), and at the same time Revolut finds better opportunities in the single market, with larger customer pool, with possibly less competitive marketplace (many EU mainstream banks charge fee for normal bank account contrary to UK, so it must be easier for Revolut to tout its free-of-charge Standard account, then upsell later to paid account), then Revolut might turn its back on the UK, and we don’t want that.

In any case the good cop (Reeves) bad cop (BoE/FCA) act might have directly led to this £3bil investment commitment in the UK, so it’s well done to everyone involved.

I placed a EUR account with my other accounts and my GBP current account appears twice. One shows full details of the account and the other seems to be looking for me to convert GBP to fund the EUR account. Is this normal and necessary as I can’t see how to delete this duplicated GBP account.

Can you flip to hide balances and screenshot?

Is one a pocket/vault?

Thanks Carlo for your reply. I just received the answer from Revolut’s AI which I’ve posted below in case it affects anyone else. I was quite impressed with the AI response provided:

“I can certainly clarify what you’re seeing on your accounts screen.

That second GBP tile you’ve noticed isn’t a separate account. It’s a ‘funding source’ shortcut that automatically appears when you add a new currency account, like the EUR one you just opened. It’s there to make it easy for you to top up your EUR account directly from your main GBP balance.

Because it’s just a shortcut and not an actual duplicate account, it can’t be removed. Rest assured, you only have one GBP account, and your funds are all safe in that single balance.”

30 South Colonnade, E14 5HX, London, United Kingdom

Looks like they updated the account details address. It was Canary Wharf before.

Isn’t South Colonnade in Canary Wharf?

Yeah kinda to the left.

It used to say 7 Westferry Circus, Canary Wharf, London, England, E14 4HD
