I get your sentiment, but feel like there’s two sides to this. For that privacy downside, there’s an incredible upside for those who really struggle managing their money. One where the simple idea of opening the app to check isn’t a viable solution.
On balance (and I say this as someone with a pretty strong pro-privacy balance) I’d rather the remaining balance be included in the notification over how much has been spent that today.
I’d even rather a notification with neither of those things taking precedence over the latter. To me. How much I’ve spent in a given day isn’t a useful piece of information, so it clutters the notification, reducing glanceability, making it harder to see the one bit of the notification that’s actually important. The amount you spent.
But the remaining balance? That’s actually useful information to convey with a push notification. Because it helps those who would otherwise be blissfully ignorant of the impact of their spending help them spot the damage sooner, and hopefully kirb it.
I’m not always with my phone when I get those notifications either. I’ll be buying something on my computer and it comes through to my watch. So it can be handy in that context too. As for privacy, whilst I hear and share in your concerns, notifications are obfuscated these days unless the device is already authenticated with biometrics and unlocked.
I agree, a toggle saves the day from the argument here, but do we really need toggles for the contents of our notifications? I don’t think so.
I don’t mind the balance being present, however, optional could be good as I have the revolut widget on my Home Screen which is fairly quick to update itself so could do without seeing it twice.
The “balance is lower than £30” notification is my least favourite.
If you just have a read here for ones involving “CIFAS”
You can see all the people even complaining that they got a marker from participating in fraud, which seems to be the worst consequence for them - but in Ireland they follow through with the courts?
Courts overloaded, prisons overflowing, police with no capacity to take on any more cases. And then we want to go after people who might be victims themselves?
Ofcourse we wouldn’t want to go after people who are themselves victims - but I’d wage a bet that the majority of the time it’s very similar to what happened in the Irish Independent article above
Though I guess CIFAS is probably a good enough punishment, you have a good point that there is not really much the courts can do
Opened a new Revolut account when you have a free trial for Premium, does it end after the month or do you have to cancel it? What if I order the premium card?
Pro is just a side account for your personal account, so any savings to be stored will be via your personal account, being sole trader/freelancer id guess that’s the general way anyway.
Business accounts possible have their own savings but I don’t have a business account.
Not so cool fact, you can’t close your pro account once you open it too.
