Retailer Title/Descriptor

Hi

I recently went to the opening of my favourite pub in Southend. I bought a round and the descriptor in my app balance was ‘The Railway Hotel | Wetherspoons’.

I know the landlord and pointed this out to him. He was horrified as he has no association whatsoever to the cheap pub chain.

Can anyone help as to why this should be happening in the descriptor of the pub?

TIA

Is this what the main name shows in the Monzo feed, or the payment information at the very bottom of the transaction detail screen?

Keep scrolling down - the merchant name as presented is at the very bottom of the second screenshot.

The merchants name is The Railway Hotel and only The Railway Hotel. Why does it say ‘Wetherspoons’ next to it? Wetherspoons is a completely different bar down the road and nothing at all to do with The Railway Hotel.

All you can do is use the improve the merchant data. I did ask via chat and they said they are worked manually but no indicator as to when these will be worked sadly.

It’s definitely a Monzo issue. Our friends who also paid for goods at The Railway Hotel and use HSBC did not have the Wetherspoons showing on their banking phone app.

As long as you follow the improve merchant data that’s all you can do. Monzo seemingly don’t care and it’s not worth losing sleep over.

It is a Monzo issue. Monzo enrich their merchant data with name, logo and map location.

They’re just having a real hard time keeping on top of everything, and as you found out, it’s not always accurate.

This the reply I got from asking, took near a week or two to respond.

So, I’ve just tried to fix it and I’ve made it worse. It’s probably now showing in the app as being in Australia :man_facepalming:

I’ve asked for a bit of help internally as the system has changed since I last used it!
