Playing in large cheque but my first name on it is the shortened version

I am trying to pay in a cheque, My account has my full first name (let’s say Johnathan, not my actual name but that type of thing) and on the cheque, it says John (again not John but you get the picture). Will this work if I send a cheque in?

Possibly not; but worth a go if it’s cheque imaging.

Shouldn’t cause any problem.

My grandparents often put the wrong surname on mine or the middle names I don’t use. It’s always been fine.

If it’s Benjamin and the cheque is Ben I don’t see this being a problem. But with John vs Johnathan that might be an issue because some people are called John and not short for Johnathan . But with Ben it’s pretty obvious it could be used for Benjamin. Just try it. Worst that’s gonna happen is the cheque being refused.
