Chuff Chuff?
I’m a UK premier customer but have been told I can’t apply to get the US Premier Credit card
I opened a US HSBC Premier checking account through having a Premier status in the UK where I’m based, however I’ve been told obtaining the US credit card is impossible by the US customer service team?
The app and browser don’t let me apply at all as they say my address is uk based so they can’t offer it to me, and when I call up they say UK residents are eligible at all.
Anyone managed to open one have any advice? Or have the rules changed?
Thanks in advance.
Do you also have the US premier account? I don’t know what their reasoning is for declining you of course, but have you got a US address on file? You can add a US residential and overseas mailing address, which may help if you don’t have those already. It’s possible that they’ve changed the criteria, but nothing I’m aware of.
It definitely used to be possible, there was someone based in Hong Kong who managed to get an HSBC US credit card mainly due to most cards in HK charging fx fees. They probably changed their policies since.
Yes have the US checking account with the lovely HSBC purple lion design.
Their main reason for denying the credit card seems to be that I’m located in the UK.
Can I add my extended families address as my mailing and residential address without it being flagged? I would of course keep my permanent address as my UK address to match my UK premier account.
Would be really interesting to know if anyone UK based has been able to apply not only for the checking account with US HSBC Premier but also the US credit card.
This is part of the reason. HSBC US allows non-residents to apply credit cards online but not for those living in the UK. For those in other countries (Like HK and I think China) it is allowed.
For us in the UK we need to apply in branch in the US.
That certainly explains how someone from this forum based in HK managed to get one. Their credit card offerings in the US aren’t very good anyway. The basic premier credit card used to be free until about 2 years ago but now has a $95 annual fee and isn’t really worth it. HSBC HK and Australia also tell me that I am ineligible to apply for a credit card due to my address being overseas.
Do you have a link to any terms and conditions stating that? I can’t seem to find anything along those words.
I think it’s still worth it with the fee, $60 would automatically be deducted for any streaming you pay for and that’s worldwide. Then the 3x points of fuel and groceries is way better than anything being offered in the UK
I went to a branch in the US and asked to apply for one. That’s how I got the info.
Didn’t get approved for the card at the end (not because of being in the UK)
