Opening transactions can sometimes be laggy

Issue: In recent months, I’ve observed that opening transactions in the app is a laggy experience. I’ve linked a video below to show this. There doesn’t seem to be a pattern wrt to what type of transactions are laggy. Deleting the app and reinstalling it hasn’t helped either.

For context, I have:

  • 2 regular pots
  • 8 savings pots
  • 13 custom categories
  • 2 linked accounts
  • And have had Monzo as my main bank account since 2019 (so quite a large amount of transactions)

I share the context because I remember working on a project some years ago for a customer (I’m in software) and the complexity of a user’s configuration resulted in some rather hideous JOIN queries that resulted in gigabyte’s of data being downloaded with every click / refresh of a page.

Regarding the video:

  • I click on a transaction at 0:01
  • The transaction opens at 0:14
  • I then click on the category around 0:16
  • The category opens at 0:28
  • I apply the category at 0:33

I’ve been seeing similar behaviour as well also on iOS with a 17 Pro Max

Did you restart your device between deleting the app and reinstalling the app?
Restarting is critical

Me and my wife are getting exactly the same as this, have been for a few weeks.

  • iPhone 17 Pro
  • iOS 26.5 (23F77)
  • Monzo v7.28.0

I’ve tried deleting, restarting then re downloading with no luck so far.

Anyone on Android also getting this or is iOS specific?

I did restart and I should have clarified that in my initial email.

I’m having the same issue (IPhone 17 Pro, latest iOS and Monzo app versions) and have tried all these things but it’s still extremely laggy. Been like this for a number of weeks now, at least over 1 month but cannot remember when it started.

I’m not seeing any major lag at all on Android at the moment - using v7.29.0 beta #7290051 and I don’t recall any major lag with any recent-historical versions either.

I can scroll through the Joint account feed (thousands & thousands of transactions) and click on a random transaction and it shows almost instantly.

I could go all the way back to 2018, but it’d take me a while to scroll through that lot :sweat_smile:

@davidwalton do you have any custom categories for transactions out of curiosity?

I only have 3 and they’re barely used. That could be something to try…
