I’ve no idea if this is even technically possible. But wouldn’t it be great if Monzo could provide transaction notifications for accounts connected through Open Banking? They might not be instant, but even if you could set it to notify you when a new transaction appeared in your feed, it would be immensely useful for banks (ahem Santander) who don’t provide transaction notifications at all or for whom they are unreliable. It would encourage me even more to use Monzo as a central hub for banking (which is surely the thinking behind the deep integration of connected accounts).

It seems to be that the Monzo app only checks for changes to connected accounts when you open it, so the connected account check & update only happens locally on your phone, not on Monzo’s servers, while any Monzo transaction happens on Monzo’s servers first and so the server knows to send a notification.
The app could sure stay awake and check connected accounts every so often, but that would make your battery drain faster.
If they could implement a check server-side, that would probably work although I don’t know if they don’t do that for privacy reasons, because the OpenBanking protocols/agreements require it, or for any other reasons.
