It’s a bit worse than that - if you were to go into your overdraft during that period, you’d be charged interest for the hold amount.

Are you sure about that? That’s not what I’ve understood to be the case previously. A quick search finds this reference:

It might be worth mentioning (assuming it’s still true) that you’ll only be charging people in overdraft on cleared transactions, not pending ones.

If things have changed, or my understanding is incorrect, would be good to know.
