In fairness, the automated system just asked for my customer number, DOB and reason for calling. I was connected with a human in around a minute. Nothing disastrous.
I actually don’t think it’s all bad.
It’s not bad living off your own money ![]()

So as long as we have the Monzo community. Do you think folks would agree?
It was tongue in cheek.
I know!!! Sorry.
Making me consider Natwest now!
How dare you!
I don’t think NatWest are too strict to get the Premier account as long as there is a history of £5000 a month going in.
Currently a prize draw to win up to £5000 if you open a Travel Account before (I think) 25 Feb.
Not sure if this was coincidence or how they operate but I’ve got two credit cards (£1k and £4k limit) and overdraft £1500 limit.
Applied to increase £1k credit limit but was declined. Reduced overdraft by £500 and reapplied to increase credit limit by £500 and it was approved.
No credit checks etc. Maybe they have a total limit they’re willing to lend across all products.
It’s a shame you can’t shift credit limits from one card to the other.
One of the reasons that I left NatWest was the stinginess of their credit limits. I only managed £2K and they wouldn’t budge from that. Chase and Lloyds offered me £6K when I did their checks.
I was planning to have my next card with them. I checked eligibility around August with RBS and they were giving me £4k.
I want to transfer a balance to them when the time comes to their 0 fee 0% card hope it will still be around.
I’ve consistently had higher offers from RBS than NatWest, so if people want a card from that group, RBS have the same lineup of cards other than the travel reward card and the same app so worth checking there for the same product.
NatWest wouldn’t increase my £2,000 limit credit card, but they would approve me for a new card with £6,500.
Similarly, they wouldn’t increase my £6,500 card to £7,000 but they would offer me a £3,600 overdraft.

Had the same thing. Wouldn’t increase from £5,000 to £7,000 but approved a new card of £8,250 I think it was. So 4x the increase that was refused and total limit would be close to 2x what it would have been with the increase.
Nationwide are much better. When you apply for an increase, you have to quote a figure, but then they’ll tell you the maximum that they’ll offer you. In my case, the maximum has always been higher than I was asking for (so I went for that).
Never been lucky with these ones. Always a straight NO.
I was never able to get a NatWest Premier account despite me having over the years a select and reward account. I think it’s because I was trying to upgrade direct to Premier black without actively using the account for a while.
It’s much better when they provide information like that. Some banks are quite opaque about their limits for individuals
Craziest has to be CoOp which says you can apply for from £50 to £15000 but no indication of what they might give you. Who’s gonna apply for a £50 limit?
