Monzo to shutter Las Vegas?

That is not how any sensible business decides on the location of offices. Even in the US, there are much better vfm options.

I’ve lived in the US - there are lots of other countries which the UK has better cultural ties with. The US and their banking sector are quite different.

I wonder if this was the real reason for the removal of the contact option.

Knowing they where going to terminate 165 “overnight” employees would be a reason to make contacting CS harder… Unless is urgent most people would probably give up or try again later.

There will be lots of reasons why Las Vegas was chosen. But neither you or I are privy to them. You don’t have enough of the facts to declare they were right or wrong.

They don’t answer the phone in the UK either so it’s consistent in both markets. No difference there.

Now I’m also curious, because I’ve only really ever really thought about Vegas as a place you go to for gambling, live shows, and conventions. Didn’t think too much about what else is going on there besides those things to justify putting a customer support center there.

I love Vegas, or more specifically, Henderson. Vegas itself though will be suffering massively with 150,000 hotel rooms sitting empty and casinos closed. 150 Monzo jobs is the smallest drop in the largest ocean over there right now.

Details of why they chose Vegas and why it (seemed to be) a good place are here:

I think there are a lot of firms today that have “wasted” a lot of money on the plans ( “experiments” ) they had in January for their long term future and to expand their businesses in what was for most of the world an expanding positive outlook on investing in their businesses in generally growing economies…in January …“where are they gonna try next” …hindsight is a wonderful thing … stupid Monzo

We should remember the human element in this. People have lost their jobs. Try telling them there’s nothing to worry about. :disappointed:

in fairness that was a comment about capacity to answer queries not about loss of jobs

Best of luck to employees in Vegas office, they’ve always been super helpful to answer queries overnight.
Shame to read these news, I hope they’ll get all the support they need to go through this crisis.

It does, I agree that is what the article says

It probably was being considered prior to the pandemic as the article says, if it wasn’t working out for what Monzo planned for it would you expect the business to carry on regardless ? …and goes on to say …"though undoubtedly the decision was escalated and made because of it " , I dont really see your point

yes there “clearly” were other factors, it said it in the article , and then the pandemic happened :man_shrugging:

“considered” and “decided” are not the same thing. It wasn’t a foregone conclusion that the office would be closed. Covid-19 made it “decided”.

how do you know this?

That’s what the article said. Might not be true, but given that we’re discussing the article, it’s not unfair for people to say that the decision was taken due to coronavirus.
