Monzo Mobile! šŸ“±

You could’ve simply switched masts. The new Brighton masts are good. Liskard towards bidston terrible.

Didn’t know this.

Is sky getting more priority than 1Global?

And why hasn’t monzo gotten a direct deal with O2, instead of going with 1Global?

I’d definitely be sticking with VOXI even if my phone could do eSIM. As I’m guessing VOXI has quite high 3/Voda priority Vs the other MVNOs.

Who knows, but I’m quite impressed with voxi so far. Coverage at my desk too which is nice, am I heck connecting to their WiFi :joy:

I’m surprised Sky hasn’t jumped ship, but if they’re getting a good deal so be it.

Monzo would have needed to implement far more and spend a lot more such as purchasing eSIMs in bulk yada yada whereas just signing with a company that has it all ready to go for less cost.

Voxi is Vodafone so the coverage is like for like minus 5G SA for now.

Hi everyone,

Sorry to those of you experiencing speed issues, this is definitely not expected and we’ve identified some issues that we’re working round the clock to fix. We do have equivalence so you can and should expect the same speeds as O2 and other MVNOs on the network.

I hope to share a more positive update soon but for now we’ll continue to work on it and encourage anyone experiencing issues to share with our customer support as it helps us get to answers much quicker.

Thanks for your patience

Appreciate the update @dara , it is definitely helpful to dispel some of the theories about lower priority etc.

I knew signing up early there might be some issues so happy to keep sharing with customer support to help iron them out (who as I said on a previous post actually have been refreshing to speak to compared to other providers I’ve dealt with).

Honestly with the number of systems, processes, infrastructure etc. I’m amazed anything in society works some days!

Please could you let us know whether you have plans for supporting RCS on iPhone? This is the biggest drawback for me when switching from GiffGaff to Monzo Mobile. Cheers

If you honestly believe O2 will put a third party eSIM provider on behalf of a bank to the same level as their own customers, I have a bridge to sell you.

Speed is not measured, but your place on a mast can and will be, depending on who you’re subscribing through.

Monzo will never admit that, or realistically don’t even understand that as it’s not in the guidebook.

1Global would need to pay a lot more to O2 to get on par with their own, which wouldn’t make it a viable product.

So far, so good for me! Ive had good signal both at home and at work, and generally around central London.

Speeds are a bit lower that one would expect on 5G, around 20MB, however other than speed tests … this is fine and everything I need to do works just fine, I dont really need 100mb to scroll on instagram.

Did a little digging on the TFL wifi situation, Wifi extra is the 02 networks wifi and it should auto connect to it, on Monzo this isn’t happening right now.It asks for log in details I do not have. Via GG, you need to press a few buttons in app, and it connects to it. So it’s possible for this to work on another network using 02 I guess that network needs to agree with 02 to use that also/ pay for it perhaps. @dara is this something Monzo are planning on supporting ?

It’s a bug with iPhones, they are trying to fix it.

I meant only that do O2 treat the priority of Monzo the same or not as their own customers for what is in their control. Of course once the data and services leave what’s in o2’s direct control and use other third party’s such as 1Global then there will absolutely be a number of things that will come into play and impact speed.

It’s like with open reach. I use the same fttp physical line to my house but different isps use different infrastructure and systems to join up at the other end so there’s difference in speed, customer service etc.

Totally agree with you have written..

From memory of doing projects on Enterprise Mobile Services, all consumers get the same priority on the network, whether native or MVNO, its just services will be missing usually VVM, Shortcodes and 5G SA..

Enterprise customers on some networks do (did) get priority on the network below the Emergency Service Users and 999 calls…

The issue will be down to routing from between the MNO and the 1Global POP…

I’d still pay Ā£2.50 more for twice the amount of data.

I’ll cross that bridge when (and if) it happens, as a price increase will allow me to exit my contract early.

EE normally state the price rises when you take out the contract, which would mean you are not entitled to exit early, AFAIK.

O2 customers were allowed to exit early as they did not specify the price rises at the time of taking out the contract.

Edit: correction - O2 did specify the price rises but increased the prices by more than the specified amount.

Monzo mobile seems like a very good network :star_struck::star_struck::sob:

My coverage has been low to non-existent in vast majority of my key areas compared to my Smarty coverage. Add to that my current £10 plan with Smarty includes 60GB and unlimited texts/calls not to mention roaming abroad, so it looks like a no for me.

As others have mentioned, if it wasn’t with O2 it could well have been a different outcome!

It’s normal for different networks to have different levels of cover.

What’s not right is virtual networks having zero throughput when the host network has a perfect connection. Monzo is not treated the same as an O2 customer.

I have to say I could barely use Monzo Mobile for a day. Im from Birmingham so a pretty well connected city and I had E (which i didnt even know still existed!!) pretty much universally. When I did have 5G the speeds were shocking.

The price point too isn’t value for money :grimacing:

I switch my number back to EE Monday woop woop

I’d be tempted to switch but I’m currently with iD, Ā£7 for 40gb with roll over, and EU roaming.

I don’t see any additional benefit at the moment.
