Monzo in the media

It might be a relatively new business but it’s got a lot of users. It seems a very odd thing for them to say

People don’t like having their accounts blocked, Monzo can’t comment on individual accounts. People don’t like it when Monzo don’t believe they were scammed, Monzo can’t comment on individual accounts

Meh, here we go again

Shame this story is playing up again. Makes you think though.

I received a transfer of 50 large into my HSBC account and very promptly received a call asking me what it was where it came from etc. to make sure it wasn’t laundering. Perhaps Monzo would opt to block the account first and foremost which is why customers get annoyed.

What does this mean? £50,000?

I was just kidding about the ‘large’ but yea £50,000. It was unusual for the account as well as it hadn’t had that sort of money before, I only put it there to meet the Premier requirements.

They don’t. I’m living proof.

At least it’s not the telegraph this time

Very intense article from the guardian

A third of 700 is approximately 250, which is 0.007 of a single percent of users. I also think it’s strange and unprofessional for an independent complaints resolution service to comment.

No plans to replace PayPoint for a little while at least.

Paypoint has had a decent year…

Lewis Alcraft, chief commercial officer at Paypoint, said: “We are thrilled to grow our partnership with Monzo to benefit its customers across the UK

Maybe if they educated shop owners, they would have an ever better upcoming 12 months.

To be honest if you asked me to draw Lewis Alcraft - a man who was trying to sell Paypoint as a good idea, I’d probably have drawn an exact replica of him.

I’ve had several txts about this today from friends /colleges and some of them use Monzo and out of them I’m the only one who’s gone full monzo.
They have asked aren’t I worried etc, I just tell them I’ve got nothing to worry about as don’t do anything suspecious/fraudulent with my account.
I just say it’s all for a reason, which we only ever hear about the customer side but can’t ever hear monzo side due to regulation etc.
Just FUD/clickbate in my view

Yeah. When I said worrying, I meant for Monzo, not the average customer.

This doesn’t look good. Is it something to be worried about. Just migrated fully to monzo

Hey Salman  welcome to the Community!

I’ve moved your post here as this article has already been discussed here on the forum. There’s also lots of information about why banks might (rarely) be obliged to freeze accounts in this thread:

Drop any thoughts into that thread!

PS I don’t think it’s anything to worry about personally. I use Monzo as my main account and it’s all been fine!

A year on it would be nice to see some improvements where regarding limits and end user experience.

Of the 850 members in the “Monzo stole my money” fb group, how many hundred of them are journalists desperate for any sort of Monzo scoop? 600-800? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Monzo are extremely highly regulated and their banking license would be swiftly revoked if they were freezing accounts and stealing money. Completely misleading reporting but banks can’t comment back due to tipping off regulations.

The difference between the 0.001% of Monzo accounts frozen and referred to the NCA for fraud investigation and the 0.001% of Barclays, HSBC, RBS etc accounts referred to the NCA for investigation is that no one cares to read about Barclays etc so no one cares to write about them.

It is bad for Monzo’s image and there are loads of keen Monzo users saying their nan said they should be worried, but let’s face it… they continue to grow faster than all of the incumbents so it can’t be destroying their reputation.
