What did I just watch. I appreciate people will be different but that’s the exact opposite of my definition of fun.
I agree. We played awful.
You’re talking about the football now, right?
I thought the whole essence of the campaign was Monzo = good, banks/money = bad, and only opposite in that sense.
This ad doesn’t come remotely close to hitting that like the money Monzo ad does.
I have to echo the others here. That ad isn’t fun. It’s nightmare fuel, and incredibly cringe. A lot of that is down to the AI mouths paired with the mismatched voice work. Takes us into way too far into uncanny valley territory. I felt very uncomfortable watching it.
Well different outlooks I suppose, I don’t get all ‘cringy’ over a TV ad for example.
They went down well when initially shown back when the campaign launched, along with the Joel Dommett/Mark Pougatch ones on ITV, and as AJ Coyle has said, they did an effective job when shown, so hence the rerun.
But you’re all talking about it …
And deciding to CASS Monzo out when my mortgage is released…
Only in the sense that it’s on here and I’m offering my critical feedback about it to Monzo out of some misguided hope it might help inform better ads in the future. I won’t be discussing it anywhere else, with anyone else, in any other context. And neither is anyone else in my social circles, making it a miss relative to the Money Monzo ad, which folks in mine enjoyed and talked about (without me even having to bring it up in conversation).
That advert was horrific.
That video’s not cringe at all, fits in 100% with the experience you’d expect with Married at First Sight, it fits in with the tv show so well.
Viewing it standalone, outside of the surrounds of the show - is a bit meh. But it’s not first dates - as mentioned above - it’s a different TV Show.
No idea if the ad was being broadcast exclusively with the TV Show or at other times too.
There’s another version that is from First Dates. It appeared a few times whilst watching Taskmaster on Channel 4 streaming.
I can’t believe I’m agreeing with the usuals. It’s awful.
I like it, as you said it works if you know the show, shame they can’t rip off a few from MAFS Australia as well
Sorry to say, I agree it’s a crap ad and makes me cringe quite a bit.
I now understand the conversations about Monzo feeling like for much younger audiences (alongside paid tiers being tilted to that)
Let’s just not have discussions and voice opinions. Close the forum guys.
I used to quite like the ad to be fair.
I’ve endured it so frequently recently, though, that I’m rapidly tiring of it.
I can see that being a possibility at this rate, especially given how toxic, argumentative and unwelcoming this place has become.
A new, cute and gamified Feedback Hub within the app would be better placed to serve that particular need, rather than this site which only gathers feedback from the most vocal and extreme minority, who’s views would not be representative of the wider customer base anyway.
Just my view
Back on topic, I don’t believe I’ve seen this advert, is it on YouTube? It sounds rather marmite-y.
It’s in the LinkedIn post I posted last night
I don’t think our views have had much weight behind them for a long time now. Certainly not the way they used to in the early Monzo days.
But I disagree with your view – while some opinions and contributions can be a little blunt, there is generally excellent feedback from a broad cross-section of regular forumites on genuine product development threads; and it’s usually a small handful of newcomers who register only to voice their strong dislike for things in a not so constructive manner, like with the App Evolution thread.
We will agree to disagree. I’d say some of those regulars are the main source of toxicity.
However, the extract of your post I’ve quoted has clearly been well crafted to attract likes. It’s the kind of fluffy stuff that does gain likes on here, even if it has no basis in reality.
Back to the topic, I do actually agree with you on one thing, the advert is bad.
