Did anyone ever discover the answer to the hard search question?
I recently had to open a current account to get a safe deposit box. I got the full current account plus 1k overdraft - no searches on Experian or Transunion. I don’t check clear score so I don’t know
Looking at my ClearScore and Credit Karma I never got any search from Metro Bank
Update: I checked Clearscore and they did leave a hard search
That’s odd as on ClearScore and CreditKarma I have nothing from them! ![]()
I think it may depend which account you opened. I opened a full fat current account plus overdraft. The cash account has zero credit checks because it is not a credit facility.
I opened the current account but no overdraft so that could be it
May well be!
Something I don’t understand about Metro Bank is that they are clearly moving into Business Banking more then Personal. That was clear with the closure of the Personal Credit Card and keeping the Business One and also the fact that their Business Line of Current Accounts has grown massively in the last year or so.
Something that is weird though is that they don’t really offer a competitive business account at all and it can be beaten by most of the high street banks.
We had a meeting on Friday looking at all of my Corporate Offerings from all the major banks and we all agreed that Metro is not really trying to be competitive. We keep up to date with all the account currently on offer to ensure are clients get the best possible deals and fit to their business needs.
Comparing it to something like Santander Corporate Banking their fees are insane and could be costing businesses who use them thousands. But again some people like Metro for their longer opening times and things like that.
Personally, I think that if Metro lowered their fees, expanded and changed some of their current offerings they could be a good corporate banking solution but at the moment the fees just don’t make sense!
They also have branch access and multiple locations, even a drive thru somewhere, which may be more convenient for business customers.
Very true!
I think that SMEs like things like branch access and a drive thru for cash deposits and dealing with a business manager in a branch but big Corporate and Large Businesses very rarely go into a branch and do everything online or via a relationship manager.
Metro is trying to encourage Bigger Businesses to move their banking needs to them. I just don’t think they offer enough to make it worth it.
You also get a business manager no matter what turnover you have which, coupled with the in person branch access, is a draw for many. A lot of the high streets only offer a BM at a certain threshold.
So I do get it.
Metro Bank vows to open more branches as it returns to profit https://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/markets/article-15612907/Metro-Bank-vows-open-branches-returns-profit-cost-cutting-drive.html?ito=native_share_article-nativemenubutton
It would be good if they improved their savings rates as well
The only reason I opened an account with them years ago was the magic money machine. I closed the account when I found their online service was officious.
They should do another switch offer, I will return.
Have Metro ever done a switching offer?
It was not a proper one but they had one in 2020 where a customer had to refer, the referred person had to use the CASS when joining metro and both of you get £50.
Referrers could earn up to £250.
By then I had a joint account with them, used it to refer myself to get a sole personal account, then referred 4 others.
Oh so like Lloyds are doing?
Not sure they can afford one ![]()
