that really cool
Calm down fella, are you the thread police?
Frustrating not being able to have my wife manage our son’s card the same way I can, especially when we use a joint account for all our finances.
You’ve misunderstood. But the faux outrage was cool.
anyone know the release date yet this month
Yep, we’re all keeping it secret.
But seriously, just wait. When it’s available to the masses, you’ll get it in app.
am just excited for this now feature to come out but definitely this month?
Nobody knows.
This thread has got crazy long
do we have an ETA on when we can link the account to either a joint account or to invite my wifes monzo to also have access?
No
Hopefully monzo have taken note of the fact joint access is the no. 1 request from customers and will prioritise accordingly.
I have just opened my children’s under 16 account but made a mistake in their date of birth, how do I rectify this? I’ve got their id cards as proof, thank you
So I finally received my invitation to open a Monzo Youth Account for my now-13-yr-old. Now that I have the invite I’ve been looking at the account specifics and it is missing a few features I’d like, which is putting me off opening the thing… She’s had a Rooster account (Natwest) for a few years which works pretty well - I like the spend and save pots, it is very easy to move money from my account to hers, and I like the limits placed on her card (5 transactions before I need to reset it). One thing it doesn’t do (which has me looking elsewhere) is pay any interest. I’ve been using it to teach her about spending vs saving - each pound she puts in her “save” pot is matched 100% by me, with the understanding she is going to let it sit and grow. But ideally that savings pot would earn some interest, so she can watch it grow by itself too.
The Monzo Youth Account doesn’t seem to pay an interest, and it also doesn’t seem to have pots, which frankly puts me off it. I’ve looked around at some other options but honestly I’m feeling a bit like Goldilocks, struggling to find the perfect fit. Natwest offers a youth account which pays 2.5% interest on everything in it, but there’s no way to delineate spending/saving, and they don’t offer a dedicated youth savings account. Nationwide seems to offer what I’m after- I could open a FlexOne current account and a FlexOne Saver for her, but we don’t bank with Nationwide and I’m hesitant to switch banks (we’ve been with NatWest for 15+ years now…). I also can’t find any information on whether I (as the parent) will be able to see/track her spending with a FlexOne account.
I guess I am wondering if anyone knows of the “perfect” account (spend vs save pots, interest-bearing, parent tracking), or whether the Monzo Youth Account is likely to have these features in the future? Or should I just go ahead and move to Nationwide as it seems to have most of what I want… (How’s the Nationwide app? Any good/bad experiences with them?)
Thanks!
It can be hard to find a ‘perfect-fit’ account but as far as Nationwide goes - you wouldn’t have to switch banks. You could simply open an account to get access to the kids account and continue banking with whoever you choose.
I’ve just signed up for an Under 16s account from my Monzo account and can manage it from my app. My wife has a Monzo account too - can she also co-manage the U16 account as well?
Unfortunately not yet.
The Monzo under 16 account does offer pots (but they don’t earn interest). My youngest created his own pot for saving towards a new console and to be fair to him, everytime he earns some pocket money he is religiously moving it himself straight into the pot (as the parent you can also do this too).
The visual of the progress bar towards the goal on the pot seems to really motivate him which is lovely to see, especially as he’s actively choosing not to frivously spend too.
I opened an Under 16 account for my daughter, who has now turned 16. She’s wanting her own account, importantly with a sort code and account number so others beside me can deposit direct into her account and for the part time job she is applying for now.
I appreciate that there is not an upgrade option and the 16-17 Year old account requires an application. However neither of us can figure out how she can apply. There is no option on the app for her to apply that is obvious, and through the website it takes her to the app. She’s stuck in a loop at this point and although loves her card, and the app, is considering going elsewhere because of the hassle
Sounds like one for customer services in app.
I was initially going to suggest logging out and signing up again, but you’d need to use a different email address and then I’d have concerns of you getting rejected because they already have an account.
Their guide certainly suggests it’s possible to apply, but doesn’t state how!
