A place to chat all things Mastercard or visa that don’t fit into other topics.
Might as well merge this discussion here, too?@AlanDoe ![]()
Lurking on r/PersonalFinanceUK, I’ve seen quite a few cases (only paid attention to Lloyds cos they’re more relevant to me) where the bank refused to compensate just because the activity log said the user logged into mobile/internet banking therefore they must have known about the activities and authorised it.
It definitely prompted me to consider NatWest since they’re moving over to MasterCard. I’ve always favoured MC over Visa, more so after that demonstration.

PayPal, Mastercard and Visa face UK competition probe
In a brief statement, the FCA says it is investigating the three US payments giants under Chapter I in the Competition Act 1998, which prohibits “agreements, concerted practices and decisions” that may distort competition.
Found a helpful comment on Reddit.
Click to Pay works similarly to Apple Pay and Google Pay (the actual buttons, not browser autofill, which is different).
When you process your transaction, a secure token instead of the actual card number is sent. Sort of like using the chip instead of the mag stripe.
Since your actual cards details weren’t transmitted, it’s less likely that someone could obtain your card details and use them as a result of this transaction.
I think you’d have different credentials for Visa, MC, Amex and Discovery when you use Click to Pay, depending on your online banking. I use different email for banking app and online shopping so I am not keen on Click to Pay.
Also, what’s the card design etc etc
I’m still not sure what credentials it actually uses. Like I’m registered for Click to Pay via Revolut (automatically) and some other banks.
How does the actual flow log me in?
If there is a a Click to Pay icon at checkout, you click it. If you have multiple cards signed up, you’ll get a list of cards and click the one you want to use. You may be asked to verify (typically a code texted to your phone) and then the purchase goes through.
Does this mean it’s just registered to my phone number at Click to Pay and then I pay and the routing is all in the background? Are there some credentials somewhere?
Visa put screenshots on this post, hopefully it makes more sense.
Here is a Figma of the Click to Pay flow, if it helps.
Hmm quite like that
