Loans

Interestingly, I received a chat message today, asking me for more details so I could be considered for a loan

I was a bit surprised my salary can’t be assumed by the fact I get paid a similar amount by my employer around a similar time each month. Don’t need a loan but might send the info across to see what I’m offered out of curiosity.

do you message them for this or was it random?

I hadn’t contacted them, they just contacted me out of the blue earlier today

It could be assumed, but you might have another source of income going into another bank account, I suppose.

Interesting that they only want to know about your income for this assessment and not your outgoings. Surely it’s what you have left each month that matters?

I’d be interested to hear how many Monzo users were contacted in this way…

They can get a lot of that from a credit file, which will show monthly repayments.

They probably then assume certain things (like average cost of food, travel etc) and deduct it from the salary he gives.

They’ll get nothing from my Noddle credit file because no one else reports to them :joy:

Pretty much all mine do - so it’s probably relatively fair.

“We saw you were interested in taking out a loan with us”

Is that accurate? Did you go into a loans tab or something like that? Cos being contacted like that out of nowhere is super shady.

Maybe signed up to the waiting list for them (I believe there was one quite a while ago)

I went into the tab to see what was available, but I’ve never directly requested a loan.

hmmm…this is like when you use certain ISP’s line speed checker with your phone number then calling you up to ask if you want to sign up with them.

I noticed when I made a large purchase on my card it offered me a loan to help spread the payments.

This was a regular monthly payment so a bit odd it was offered to me.

I’ve dismissed the notification but that was unexpected. I guess they have to promote the new product. It’s not something any other provider has put front and centre which I kind of prefer, I associate easy loans with untrustworthy.

Still thats just how I felt I’m sure some people like the prompt and having the option.

I reckon these won’t appear if you turn off lending promotions in the settings.

I agree

But they are not searching your credit file. I too had a random message out of the blue asking for proof of my salary. I queried about a search and was told:

Thanks for getting back to me
At this point no search is taking place, we’re just trying to get a better picture of how much we think you can afford to borrow with us. A soft search will have taken place when you originally signed up.
Hope that clears things up, but let me know if you have any other questions!
Best, Amy

How do you attach a pdf to a chat? Don’t think I’ve seen the option. Drag and drop? Although I can’t see how that would work

Has anyone at Monzo said who these loans are for?

It seems there all 20%~ APR… I saw i can get a small loan from them, but i don’t know why they think id be interested, who in the right mind would get a loan at 20%? And why are they so small?

They look like payday loans.

On Android (at least) you can attach documents to chat the same way you would attach a photo?
