I can see a world where Halifax is an online only brand.
Edit: I forgot about Northern Ireland where LBGs only presance is Halifax… hum

Not quite. The HQ here has a Halifax and Lloyds branding.
I’ll be more specific to say only branch banking presance then.
I never had cause to visit the gasworks site, but on streetview now, yes thats a very large LBG and Halifax sign.
another edit, : gasworks is closing https://www.uniteinlbg.org/post/gasworks-belfast-to-close-in-2025
A little random but I opened an account with Lloyds recently solely to get the switch bonus. Was pleasantly surprised with the process of opening an account using the app, particularly scanning my passports NFC tag from my iPhone. I wasn’t even aware iPhones could do that yet.
Does this also work on Android, and with the entire brand, or is it only with Lloyds?
When I set up Santander’s new app for my mum earlier this year, they used the iPhone to read her passport chip too all quite cool.
Unsure about android.
Guess that can be harder many many manufacturers with various implementations.
Don’t know about Lloyds but I’ve used Android to scan the passport on several recent openings.
It’s been around a bit. I’ve done it for some banks and for Australia / New Zealand visa applications.
Android OS. Had to do biometrics and upload passport data for ID and right to work checks for a new job a few months ago. Bit different to the increasingly inebriated interview in a Nottingham bar for a job interview in 1990 followed by a start date the next day.
Have decided to move away from Lloyds for now and downgraded to the Classic account from Club Lloyds. No intention of transferring enough money in there each month for the Lloyds 360 since it’s so basic and useless for me.
Back to HSBC I go. Will report back if the downgrade to the Classic account gives me a hard search - I think it will.
Lloyds don’t hard search for account changes.
That’s good to know, ty. Saw HSBC do a hard search, so I’ll just keep it as a basic account. Nothing really good with the Advance account anyway.
Does paying yourself using your own Monzo me link count as a debit card transaction, or would it detect that as a transfer to a money institution?
Halifax was designed to be a more modern medium between BoS and Lloyds, starting out as a building society. Lloyds gives a business-y serious vibe and has strong footing in England, not so much in the other nations, whilst BoS has no appeals outside of Scotland. And given they are the biggest mortgage lender, it’s very unlikely they’d sack off that brand in personal banking.
When LBG was trying to catch up with Monzo’s functionality, it’s Halifax that’s focused as their fintech rival if I remember correctly.
No idea. Never done it
It does for revolut.
It shows as a bank transfer, or does it count as a debit card purchase?
Very much so…
I’ve never quite ‘got’ Halifax’s branding. Back in the early 2000s they started using the same ad campaigns for Bank of Scotland and it was bad enough to make me move my very long-standing current account
Top up your revolut account by debit card.
Tested, it worked. Account was topped up instantly while the payment is still pending.
