Got LASEK with Optical Express nearly 5 years ago now.
Was in surgery probably no longer than 10 minutes. Going in there with blurry vision and 10 minutes later coming out with clear vision was mind blowing to me.
Had to wear goggles whilst sleeping and use a bunch of eye drops for about a week to heal.
Only issue I had was just some persistent dry eyes, but had that before surgery anyway.
I had laser about a year ago at Optegra and can now see perfectly without glasses. It went well for me and I’ve had no dry eyes or any ongoing problems since. My vision is now 20/10.
Most of the high street laser eye clinics were unwilling to offer me surgery due to my high astigmatism (5+ CYL) but Optegra specialise in edge cases. The downside of this was an almost £6k invoice at the end…
The surgeon was Robert Morris - he was very good and was available to talk about the procedure both before, during and after the surgery. Very impressive.
Glad I had it done. I might feel differently in 10 years though, who knows.
I’m looking into getting laser eye myself, especially as it’s cheaper than it used to be.
I wear glasses for everyday use and it costs around £500 a year for them(my prescription is ultra strong and I’m forced to get the maximum thinness or they’ll be too heavy, then got the frames etc)
With laser eye I’ll be saving this so it’ll pay for itself after a few years.
Ignore the costs comparison between glasses / contacts etc.
As it is a painful and traumatic experience that is irreversible.
The depth perception changed. Things I used to be able to see I can’t anymore, and vice versa. So the vision becomes different.
If you are comfortable and not limited in any activities with a current eyewear solution (contact lenses or glasses), I do not recommend surgery.
I did it because of sports, and weird eyeball shape meaning astigmatic toric contact lenses did not work for me (they rotated on every blink, making things fuzzy and rotating back in places with one eye not rotating right).
My ex had this done at Vision Express on interest free.
The cost was a lot but honestly for them, it gave them perfect 20-20 in both eyes and allowed them to go swimming again which they missed so worth it.
Nothing bad to report - I was the chaperone and saw them maybe 1 minute after it has been done and it looked like sandpaper had been rubbed over their eyes. Be aware you are advised to keep your eyes closed for the rest of the day which makes doing normal things difficult.
Was told it wasn’t painful but really weird and awkward but it takes literally seconds.
Best of luck, I unfortunately can’t have it due to my left eye…. Although in my case, apparently my eyes are “perfect” it’s the optical nerve between my eyes and my brain, I know it doesn’t make a lot of sense, but I’ve been told that by multiple opticians and an eye doctor
