Kroo Bank Chat

I closed mine, then decided to try to re-open and was told they don’t have a process for this and don’t allow it

Sounds like Chase

Although I did manage to re-open chase with a different mobile number, but I know others have failed doing the same

Question: what’s so bad about Kroo? Because I see all of you making fun of it, but when I look at their website, all I see is a fairly fee-free, interest-paying current account, with 7am-10pm customer support, and a nice app (and debit card).

So could someone enlighten me as to what is so bad about Kroo?

Ask @Ryan1992

They used to sometimes ask the date of birth of the person paying you. Not an easy question if that person was the company employing you! And, of course, they wouldn’t be able to check the answer.

Other similar issues around sending money.

That said, I’ve never had any issues with them, though I wouldn’t be getting my salary paid in to them.

They seem to have gotten on top of the issues as it’s been a good while since I’ve seen anyone reporting issues with them.

Lots of stories of issues with payments that don’t seem to happen with other banks. As mentioned above someone here used to have their salary paid into it and every month it got blocked and they had to jump through hoops to get their wages. Very bizarre that a company very obviously paying a salary would keep getting blocked, but it did.

Also several people I think said they closed their accounts but it was actually still sat there.

Generally just a lot of reports here of problems and several community members have been burned by them.

Too many freezes, withholding bacs payments/wages meaning bills couldn’t be paid.

I think they were debiting funds/standing orders and paying them 5 days later at some point, or something along those lines. Maybe even debit them from the account 5 days before they were actually meant to be processed?

Card has always worked for me, app very basic, can’t adjust categories in spending so it can be off.

Notifications work promptly, yes interest on balance but beaten elsewhere.

It works out the box but the experiences seen here and other places just make it a no no.

I can see I’ve been tagged so here we go lol

I’ve kept the account open but I first opened it in November 2022 around the time they first started accepting applicants for their new account.

I am employed by a well known company in the UK and every single month my salary went under review. The first month it went under review it took 3 days to get it cleared and as a result I missed direct debits. I then had issues with direct debits not being collected when they should have been.

I always have my direct debits come out a day after I get paid so I know what I am left with for the rest of the month. One month when my salary went under review again (probably about the 4th or 5th time by this point), they placed the onus on me for the failed direct debits because and I quote “You knowingly set up direct debits very close to your payment date knowing there is a chance your incoming payment may be placed under review”.

On once instance they also asked me to provide the date of birth of someone who I was transferring funds to for security reasons and wouldn’t explain why this was even required.

I tried so hard to give them a chance but they blew it every single time and it really wasn’t worth the headache every month wondering whether I’d get paid or not especially as there wasn’t a single month I was with them that the payment didn’t go into a review - towards the end the payment was cleared usually within a few hours so I didn’t notice it by the time I woke up but the notifications advising it was under review were always there.

I did however get an apology from their CEO after I provided them feedback and he promised me that my case would be looked at to improve internal processes etc but I haven’t used them since then to confirm whether this was actually the case.

Hah I forgot about this bit, your fault for needing to use your own money after the day you would normally expect it and didn’t take their absurd checks into account :joy:

The more absurd thing was the ombudsman agreed with them lol

I used to deal with ombudsman complaints on the company side. It was very easy to spin them a yarn.

So Kroo-l.

Couldn’t you appeal that as it’s ludicrous?

Not sure if anyone has seen this already.
Did notice at the end of the article Kroo has their eyes on US expansion at some point.

My Dad has just tried to transfer £2000 to my Kroo account from his NatWest one, and NatWest put a hold on it because they thought it could be a scam. Think it says more about NatWest’s overzealousness, but I’ve not seen it before. It was a simply case of replying ‘Yes’ to the message to confirm it but… :man_shrugging:

It’ll just be anxious about the sortcode being a fintech.

My letting agent also uses a fintech and RBS asked the same.

Similar thing happened to me with HSBC. Tried to transfer £3000 from HSBC Advance account to my KROO account, Transaction stopped, account locked by HSBC
Had to spend 2 separate calls on the phone to HSBC India (?) repeating over and over that no one has told me to transfer etc, no I’m not on the phone to someone at the moment etc.
2 calls as they cut me off the first time.
I had previously done maybe 10 separate transfers to/from my KROO account in the previous 2 weeks before this happened so no excuse that HSBC didn’t recognise my account with KROO was legit. I’d had the account for about 9 months at that point.
