Wow. The tone in that one is even worse! It’s basically saying “you lie like a cheap watch” ![]()

Yeah. I’m out…

[EDIT]: They’re also solely basing their decision on one CRA, too. Aaaand that’s TransUnion ![]()

You’ve disabled me in your preferences. You need to allow new user onboarding tips to interact with me.
Can’t remember if it’s a week or 30 days and you can apply again, pretty sure it’s a week.
I’d hedge this being why, because if you spent that and the new overdraft to the same limit, it could be irresponsible lending.
I did try reducing my personal limit but obviously can’t get back to try again. Will see if it resets in time.
I guess it’s not essential. I’ve lived without one since Monzo launched the joint account whereas I always had one “just in case” with every other bank.
My credit rating is a bit up and down, but still in the “excellent” category. An interest free credit line just settled and I swapped phone providers in Nov which also caused a blip even though there’s no hard searches on file. Although that message also confirms that my credit file hasn’t been looked at.
Interestingly if I tried to request a higher limit on my personal account it fails on monzo’s lending policies not my income.
I give up for now. This is far more complicated than it should be when there’s so much data available. Hey ho!
If I get a minute tomorrow I’ll try sift through the terms but I don’t think it would cover it needing to balance between all accounts.
Will tune in next Monday to see if it works ![]()
So you don’t have this money, meaning you can’t spend it, thus your take home pay is lower than they anticipated - based on a rough assessment of gross pay, and what you’re actually paid. This can’t be argued that ultimately the money is no longer yours to spend once it’s in a pension. Very straight forward.
Not really, only this month’s money is not available - next month’s is if I need it. All I asked is maybe they should probe a little deeper, what if someone is paid into another account and only transfers a small amount to Monzo each month?
Because it potentially looks a risk. This person has plenty, why do they need credit? They can afford their bills. While this can be seen a positive, it can also be a negative.
People with significant monies use credit all the time, not sure this argument applies. Also I budget fine grain, I have no desire to leave £500-£3,000 sitting in a 0% account on the off chance that the occasional bill comes out a little earlier than I expected. An overdraft allows me to absorb the cost and then move money over later, thus ensuring I maximise interest on my money.
A credit card company doesn’t care for your savings balances they care how you spend and manage other credit.
Monzo can clearly see my spending and repayment pattern through both my credit record and my Flex + personal overdraft usage. I don’t think I have ever missed a payment in my life, or ever gone into financial trouble.
In all I just think their checking algorithm is a little off.
Have you removed your personal account limit and applied for the joint from there?
My wife and I both get the following error message when we click on (joint) learn about overdrafts - any ideas?
Tried yesterday and today both same error
Hi folks,
Thanks for all the feedback here
We’re definitely looking at ways to improve our credit strategy as we learn more. This is our first joint borrowing product, so we’re starting carefully and looking to optimise as we learn so watch this space.
As for some of the comments around the decline reasons - let me take a look and see how we could improve these ![]()
Yeah, still cannot get it - tried a few times. No problem having approval for large monzo loan, got 3k overdraft on personal monzo (never used), got high credit limit, 10-20% used and (paid monthly) on flex. Have a good credit rating etc - really no obvious reason to reject.
I don’t even need to have it, but it’s nice to have a buffer there for DD’s as I keep cash in savings pots etc.
