It’s Glowtime – Apple announces iPhone 16 event

I realised I took the wrong approach. Paying £1k+ for a phone I’m not sure I’ll even like is not helpful when I don’t have the cash to throw around on multiple flagship phones in a year.

Better to go with something safe; and if I can pinch an 8a for sub-£300 around the November sales I can give Android a whirl without worrying about accidentally scratching and voiding my return on a thousand pound device.

And the difference isn’t huge between an 8a and 8 Pro from what I’ve seen.

You could also not buy the new iPhone every year lol. If the 15 PM battery wasn’t dying so quick you could have kept your 15 PM and just bought a cheaper Pixel and enjoyed both i guess.

Shame it’s only the 16 and not the Pro video.

But then Tim Apple would be disappointed in me.

I contemplated a battery replacement but I’d rather phone I know I’ll be happy with and then test Android on something good enough. Pixels (and Android in general) hold their value a lot less than iPhone does so a Pixel 9 wouldn’t get me as much money back eventually. No such concern with an 8a if gotten cheap enough.

For what it’s worth I’ve all ready put my sim back in my S24 Ultra and put the PIxel 9 away as my massively overkill spare phone. If the PIxel 5 I had lasted longer than 1 hour on battery and didn’t get such good trade in I would never have got the Pixel 9.

Booked my 13 Pro in for a new battery on Thursday… unless something amazing and unexpected tonight that will be my ‘new’ phone purchase. Can’t really justify £1k just for USB C.

Waiting to order the 16 Pro and either the Apple Watch Series 10 or Ultra 3 (likely the ultra)

Tell me about it
Trade in prices for my Pixel 8 were bad enough before the 9 came out, looking at less than 25% of what I paid for it now

Now I get a free watch plan with my mobile contract, I am likely to get the new Ultra. Could never see the point of paying for watch data when my phone is usually always with me.

Is that one of the new EE 5GSA plans?

That’s an Android issue in general, tbh… iPhones keep their value a lot longer

Probs gonna ride out the 14 Pro until it dies.

Not sure there’s been any difference up to date? I don’t care for AI.

USB C would be nice but my Anker wire and plug I bought 2,5 years ago or whatever seems to still work a treat.

0% makes sense quite a lot as inflation eats the value of the payments over time even if you keep the phone. Why pay the full amount now instead of over x years at 0%.

Yes. Luckily I get a discount.

I’ve go the 8 Pro and MrsW has the 8a. The 8a is unbelievable value for money even at higher prices. Get it with a heavy discount and it’s a bargain.

I ain’t going anywhere.

There is no Ultra 3 according to Mark Gurman. There’s likely to be an Ultra 2 in black, though.

I don’t see the point of upgrading either iPhone or Watch Ultra 2 this year. the 16 Pro Max is (according to Gurman) a minor refresh and there’s no Ultra 3.

My 15 Pro Max is still at 100% battery health and completely scratch and scuff-free, too.

Tim Apple is so good at marketing the new devices, though, so who knows whether I actually will or not
