iOS 26

I think Siri used to recognise your voice only and act on that, not sure that setting exists any more so that could be a reason.

Siri does but only so it don’t doesn’t listen to other people near you phone (like Alexa does) but it never unlocked your phone. Voice is far far too low a barrier for it to beat faceid/pin.

I really think it’s faceid seeing you while using Siri at the time or maybe the Apple watch doing it but then it normally gives a small vibration to tell you it unlocked it.

It could be an overlay thing for Apple Maps which doesn’t actually unlock your phone though similar to what happens on screen when routing using Apple Maps then locking your phone.

My iPhone does act on my requests now but it sits in a holder and can use Face ID when it needs to.

Will try it out later today, it’s not too often I use it as I mainly just drive to work and back, and could do that with my eyes closed.

As far as I can recall it’s always done that, but because mine is facing towards my face it unlocks quite quickly.

Otherwise anyone with access to your phone could find your address.

I don’t think Siri has ever been able to unlock your phone with your voice. It will just be that the camera can scan your face when you’ve been saying it so it gives the impression that it is unlocked via voice.

It would be incredibly insecure to do so.

Ah ok - I’ll just have to make sure the phone can see my face when I’m driving…

The other annoying thing though about Siri navigation is that it seems to not actually know my address anymore anyway. At least, it doesn’t know my address when I ask it to take me home, but if I ask it where do I live, and if I open Apple Maps and click on the ‘Home’ button it does know my correct address…

I live at >somewhere< ‘Church Place’. This is the address set on my card, complete with town and postcode. For some reason, whenever I ask Siri now to take me home, it always directs me to >somewhere< ‘Church Lane’ in a town 50 miles away. If I ask it to take me to ‘Church Place, >town name<‘ it directs me to another Church Place in a town 40 miles away.

It’s almost as if it’s just picking the first address alphabetically (when I give it the town name, the other town begins with an earlier letter in the alphabet than my town).

Looks like the only accurate way I can get it to reliable direct me to my home is by using the postcode.

Ok so I’ve switched to the dark Liquid Glass app icons and I can’t lie, I actually kind of like it.

It’s sucked all the colour out of my app icons and it makes my phone a lot less enticing to get lost in for hours a day.

I really value having a smart phone, but I’m trying lots of things this year to reduce my screen time and so far I’m liking this.

I tried to have all apps one colour but my head can’t get around it :grimacing:

Oh no I couldn’t live with that. The tints really aren’t for me either, but glass on the other hand, I’m liking!

As a Blind iOS user I like how search bars are at the bottom, I could just put my finger near the bottom and drag down until I hear search field. I do have a limited amount of vision, and I like how the tab bar in apps has a highlight on the selected tab, I actually find it clearer than the old tab designs in prior iOS versions. I also like how after an update the voice I have set for VoiceOver doesn’t get changed temporarily, it sticks to the one I choose, which is mainly Eloquence Reed English US.

Apple balance card has made a return to the wallet app.

Tried adding that but says I can’t due to two Apple accounts - 1 for App Store, 1 for iCloud.

I didn’t add mine. I found it there already. And I have just been loading gift cards via the app store

26.4 out today.

Noticed to get app updates is App Store > profile icon > updates and drag down, vs just to profile icon and drag down.

Still have the mail app issue where it’s not telling me when all mail comes in, rarely ever get a notification, and I had 9 emails when I finally when in today.

Any fix for that? It’s annoying. Or know a decent mail app replacement?

If they are for a Gmail account, no fix.
I get my emails pushed for my other accounts added by IMAP and those on iCloud, works more seamlessly if you have battery saver off and background refresh on.
Under some accounts you can set push, fetch or manual. Gmail only has fetch, that will usually only load when app is opened.

Although there is a workaround.

I use the Mail app to read and respond to emails, but the Gmail app for notifications and search.

I figured it out (I’m outlook and iCloud):

Notifications > Customise notifications > alerts needs to be on. Was only on badge or something.

Is this the update with better Siri?

I wouldn’t know what to ask it.
