Quick question folks – does Monzo as a bank plan to make revenue via interest-bearing loans? The reason I ask is because my faith prevents me supporting (e.g. investing) in institutions that participate in interest.

I know the original plan was to make money via affiliate fees, but wondering if anything’s changed?

Thanks!

How does the balloting work - if I enter a higher pledge amount does it mean I would be then more likely to get selected or is it more that the amount doesn’t matter it’s just a random pick based on accounts submitted.

I don’t think that they would proioritize people who pledge more.

It will be a random ballot. Not only will you not be prioritised if you invest more, you also won’t be penalised.

So anybody that is already invested is guaranteed further investment. Going to assume most of them will take that up, massively limiting how much goes to ballot? Doesn’t sound all that much of a fair and clean slate to be honest :frowning:

bugger - sorry …dang…

“any guesses on how high it will go ? @tommy5dollar has £10m - Im going for £4.8m - :rocket:

If it keeps going at this pace we’ll be at £10m by the end of tonight.

I’ll say pledges will reach £27m.

Given that we are at 4.8 million already and existing investors will probably take up a very large chunk, I don’t think those of us who have pledged should hold our breaths to be honest. I figure the chances are not good.

There were almost 2000 investors in the last Crowdcube round. If they all decided to invest £1000 this time then there would be £0.5M left for new investors. The average investment last time was about £500.

Apparently the average investment now is around £250. If we assume existing investors maybe all invest more; perhaps £500 each, that takes £1m out and leaves £1.5m to go to a total of 6,000 investors @ £250 each (or 3,000 new investors @ £500 each)

If I invest and have physical shares in Monzo, once they rise and I want to sell my investment how would I do this? As they’re not on the stock market how does this work?

you personally would have to find somebody that wants to buy them - it really is as simple as that - they will be illiquid until Monzo is a listed company and that won’t happen for 5-10 years or an institutional investor might want to hoover up small shareholders (unlikely) , or they could go bust and you will lose your stake, if they do get to listing on the stock exchange, the company could be the next Facebook - until they list they are basically worthless bits of paper unless you can find somebody to sell them to

Yep. £1000 in the first round got you 1,949 shares as each share was sold at £0.5133. A share is currently worth £1.0058, which means £1,000 should get you roughly 994 shares.

With Seedrs (similar to CrowdCube) they did a change of ownership between seller and buyer, got us both plus the Nominees to sign a couple of documents and exchange the agreed sum. They then noted the new beneficial owner in the records

I’m really confused how all this works.
Let’s say I invested £1000. I would be entitled to some shares.
Will I be able to liquidate these shares whenever I want?
If not, how long would I have to wait until I can withdraw the money?
