Introducing new perks on Monzo Perks and Max šŸæšŸš‡šŸš•ā–¶ļø [YouTube Premium Lite just added!]

Thank you. Downgraded. Perks doesn’t give me much to warrant the increase and I don’t use YouTube. They could’ve sweetened the deal with something like 6 months 0% on Flex or something with Perks.

Not sure if it’s coincidence or planned that they’ve made two of the stickiest features (virtual card and connected account) available to a limited extent in the free tier. Not complaining though (especially since being let back into Starling I can get 4% on my easy access savings for free over there).

Was only so long they could keep them paywalled as Starling offer virtual cards for free and Revolut has both for free. Even some of the legacy banks now offer virtual cards free

You have to cancel your Perks to free and then subscribe to Extra. There’s no option to downgrade directly to Extra.

Looks like that’s the new app flow since the price hike. They’ve :100: anticipated a load of users wanting to downgrade so they’ve made it easier. That option didn’t exist before.

They’ve anticipated a lot of people wanting to cancel might not check their options but might be caught into a lower plan rather than losing all the revenue

Yes, there’s a lot of ā€˜here’s what you could still have for only Ā£X a month’ hard sell on the way out now.

I would consider upgrading to.perks, if the YouTube lite could be upgraded to YouTube premium Family, even if it was just say £2/3 towards the £19.99

I don’t know if YT supports what Netflix etc does though with the upgrade pricing.

Hell if I recall the Lloyd disney+ couldn’t get upgraded even though it’s common to be able to do it with Sky although for that to work billing needs to be through Sky TV.

Gemini thinks this is unsupported, I guess the issue is that only Google and Monzo know what terms they agreed in terms of cost per user, so applying the retail price as a discount may not be right.

I do think though that Monzo should be able to offer other options, where we pay Monzo a premium and Monzo maybe make slightly more.

I know for Sky and Netflix they promote Netflix included, but offer upgrades to the basic Netflix

Yeah you can’t upgrade it.

NextDNS on my Apple TV seems to block all the ads anyway though.

Does NextDNS impact speeds? Do you have it set up on the router I take it?

I’ve been using Mullvad and find when it comes to downloads it massively throttles speeds and gaming can be unreliable. So it only gets turned for certain use cases now…

No impact on speed for me.

You can set it up on routers, provided your router allows it. If you’re using the Sky Hub, they don’t allow changes to the DNS settings.

They have apps on iOS, Android, Mac and Windows you can use, or you can just change your DNS settings on device to use it.

The website includes guides to set it up on pretty much anything.

I use my own router with Sky Broadband. No way would I be going back to using a ISP provided router. I have an Asus XT12 mesh system

Not familiar but I would assume that would allow setting it up at the router level.

Its this, pretty sure it will let me. I was going to have Mullvad run on it but since sites etc have become picky with VPN users I just use on devices and turn it off when I don’t need it.

Yeah I don’t love leaving a VPN on full-time, as you say some websites are funny about it.

NextDNS blocks all the ads without the funkiness.

I was NextDNS for years since the beta days but went ControlD

I did use ControlD for quite a while.

I like how it lets you set a location to appear from based on which website/app you’re using.

I was able to appear in the Netherlands only when watching F1 TV, removing the need to enable a VPN

Signed up to the new Perks tier today (I was waiting for a 1st of the month billing date).

I don’t go to Greggs or use Uber, and I’m not eligible for a railcard.

But my default cinema is a Vue, so with that and YouTube plus the Extras bits that get rolled in that’s enough to be financially viable for me personally.

Couldn’t believe how easy the YT linking process was. 2 or 3 clicks and it was done!
