Iv said before i like to wait a day …
not everything needs to be inproved its a balance from instant access and enugh friction to make my savings actuly not be availabe. and even if i did have an emergence the face i would have to wait till the next working day is not the end of the world.
this is a nice addition to Monzo making money work for all.
Please dont break this by insisting we get the money instantly.
Wouldnt call it breaking savings pots personally.
Surely allowing people the option for both would be the happy medium.
Its a well requested feature so its something people clearly want, myself included
Me too. It means my emergency funds (that I need to access immediately) can earn interest within the Monzo wrapper.
I agree, I really do hope they add it or some other feature to help.
I would love to see this feature added!
Has if my main account goes low and I need to buy something from a shop, I can’t and have to wait for the next day to do so. It can get a little frustrating! When you know you have the money there in your saving account pot and can’t use it.
Just another idea that just popped up in my head. Then moving money from your saving account pot and having to wait for the next day. When moving the money! The bank put there own money in your main account. what is the right amount and then you pay the bank back from the saving pot when clicking on move money icon. So it will still be the next day thing to pay the bank back! But instead moving your money across. Your paying the bank back and they put there money in. Instantly in the same day!
Only an idea.
I just hope the developers are looking at this.
Personally, I think if you need “instant access” to it, then you don’t have the money to put into savings.
I have money in normal pots because I want to be able to get to it if I need it, maybe I could cope waiting for the next day, but I don’t want that limitation. If I had more money and I had an emergency fund and savings, then that’s different.
But if you’re putting every last penny into savings, for what is a tiny amount of interest, I think that’s a bit backwards.
Agree with the above.
I have a standard ‘Emergency pot’ of £100 for if I’m a little short one month to save me having to dip into my savings.
I just top it up the following month if needs be so it’s always at that level.
Just did what you said. I never thought of having a normal pot! So I have a saving account pot and a normal saving pot now. Great idea!!! But I would still love to see if they can do anything with the saving account pot. Anyway thanks for the idea ![]()
Would it be possible to allow immediate withdrawals from the “easy access” savings pot?
If this is a limitation of the savings fund provider (assuming it is third party), could it be possible to implement the same “get paid early” feature like there is for salaries to work around that?
It seems totally not what monzo is about to have to wait for the next working day to withdraw funds.
From one of the other post about this that I saw, this is exactly what they do in order for you to get it when you do. Otherwise it would be weeks I think.
Could potentially be a good plus feature.
Little or no cost to monzo because the money will eventually clear?
But useful enough that people may consider it worth paying for to make it look less seemless
I like the delayed access, it prevented me from pulling money out just for a sneaky McDonald’s or pulling money out when drunk.
Totaly agree with you, the delay is perfect for me. stopes the impuls spending. is it realy that bad to have to wait a day or at worst over the weekend.
Could you possibly post a link? I’m curious about the process.
Why can’t ‘Easy Access Savings’ become ‘Instant Access’
Even if it uses the ‘get paid early’ functionality.
Annoying to have to wait for the end of the next business day (or whole weekend!) before any saving withdrawals are credited back to the account.
The get paid early is just the BACS system where it’s considered cleared in the cycle. All banks could do this but choose not to. It’s not a case Monzo are fronting up the money out of their pocket or anything special.
The savings however completely different with a third party provider, so would be reliant on them providing instant transfers. Most providers say next working day.
Monzo already pays you early, it actually takes longer for them to get the money back.
This has been suggested before. You can vote for it below
One of the Monzo staff said it when this was requested before.
I’ll see if I can find the post.
Are you saying when you take money that’s in a savings pot held with a third party, that monzo are saying you have it before they actually have it on record.
I assume it works like banks with just a few transactions each day, so if £Xk total has been sent to a provider (put in a pot) and £Yk total withdrawal between the 5 million customers.
I assume the provider has next day as it has time to get assets available.
While having a quick look for what @Revels mentioned, I instead found the below which is something none of us have considered either:
