Improve durability of Monzo - Max debit card

The Monzo Max debit card looks great when new, but the current finish scratches and marks quite easily with normal wallet use, which can make the card look worn fairly quickly.

Given that Max is Monzo’s £17/month premium tier, it would be great if the card had a more durable finish (for example a matte or scratch-resistant coating) or a higher quality material while still keeping Monzo’s iconic red design.

Improving the durability of the card would help the physical product better reflect the premium feel of the Max subscription and maintain the strong visual impression of Monzo’s distinctive red card.

Bring back the white metal :worried:

As a subscriber to the Max plan at £17 per month, I expected the debit card to reflect the premium nature of the tier. However, in practice the current Rouge red card appears to be made from standard plastic and tends to show scratches, scuffs and surface wear quite quickly through normal everyday use. After only a short period the card can begin to look worn and tatty, which does not align well with the premium positioning of the Max subscription.

For comparison, other digital banks such as Wise and Revolut appear to provide cards with a more durable finish and higher perceived quality. Revolut in particular offers reinforced steel cards on its higher-tier plans, which clearly signals the premium level of the product. By contrast, the current Monzo Max card feels relatively basic despite the higher monthly fee.

The debit card is also one of the most visible physical touchpoints of the Monzo brand. To use a simple analogy: when someone buys a Rolls-Royce, they would not expect to be handed a set of keys made from paper-mâché. The small physical details should reflect the quality and positioning of the overall product.

Improving the material quality, scratch resistance and overall finish of the Max card would significantly enhance the user experience and better justify the premium price point. Possible improvements could include a higher-grade composite material, a scratch-resistant matte coating, or even the option of a premium metal card for Max subscribers.

Surely a bot?

I don’t see Monzo max premium in any form at all. Nothing premium about it.

Nope…definitely NOT a bot.I’ve also replied to Monzo in-app earlier and had detailed chat about this over feedback….so just feeding back what’s noted over the past 6yrs since I’ve been with Monzo.

I also work in IT as DB Analyst btw..

Yeah…agree & noted.

See this message reads entirely different to your other two. Your other two were obviously AI

Hmm that’s matter of opinion, as everything people write or do is presumed AI.

I’m certainly not AI and at best may use the odd spelling check or ‘proof reading’ on iPhone before sending a message.

Point being it’s simple feedback & if others don’t agree so be it, as it’s only an opinion which’s nothing to do with AI in first place.
