"Impact Boost" – Uncapped, Range-Based Savings Boosts for Charity Donations

Hi everyone,

I have a product concept that I believe deeply aligns with Monzo’s B-Corp identity while acting as an incredible customer acquisition tool for high-value savers.

I would love to propose a feature called “Impact Boost” Pots. This system connects monthly charitable donations directly to temporary, uncapped interest rate boosts on savings.

:hammer_and_wrench: How it works in practice:

  1. Choose a Cause: Users select an emergency or environmental charity partner in-app (such as the RNLI, Air Ambulance charities, or “Save the Trees” initiatives).
  2. The Range-Based Boost: Monzo calculates a monthly interest rate boost based on the continuous range of the total amount donated within that calendar month:
    • Donate £0.01 to £5.00 :right_arrow: Unlocks an extra +0.25% AER on your savings pot.
    • Donate £5.01 to £10.00 :right_arrow: Unlocks an extra +0.50% AER on your savings pot.
    • Donate £10.01 or more :right_arrow: Unlocks an extra +1.00% AER on your savings pot.
  3. Monthly Cycle: The tracker resets on the 1st of each month, giving users the freedom to adjust their donation amounts based on their monthly budget.

:chart_increasing: Why the “No-Cap” model is vital:

By keeping the savings balance uncapped, premium savers with large balances are heavily incentivised to make maximum monthly donations to maintain a high yield.

Placing a cap on the savings balance reduces the percentage return for wealthy users. If a cap reduces their ROI, they lose the financial incentive to donate larger amounts. Leaving it uncapped ensures that high-net-worth individuals are highly incentivised to make massive monthly donations to life-saving causes.

:rocket: Why Monzo should build this:

  • Win-Win Philanthropy: This creates a unique “save money while doing good” loop that doesn’t exist anywhere else in the UK banking market.
  • Ultimate Customer Acquisition: An uncapped +1.00% AER boost for a £10 monthly donation would make Monzo the most competitive savings destination in the UK overnight, drawing in huge deposits from premium savers.

I’d love to hear what the community and the Monzo product team think of this!

Monzo doesn’t have money to waste.

Does AI have anything better for the table?

Monzo…isn’t a b-corp for starters.

Triodos is. Coventry Building Society is. Coutts (somehow) is. But definitely not monzo.

Don’t you just love AI slop.
