ID in London 25/05/16 Event Debrief

Last night we hosted ID in London’s latest meetup, with two presentations from Luca Sgroi (Market Invoice) and our very own Ed Schikurski @Ede

This is a thread for any attendees (and those who couldn’t make it) to carry on the discussion with questions and feedback for the speakers or about the event in general.

Luca’s presentation synopsis

What Continuous Delivery really is? If you want to implement it, first you need to understand it!

There is often confusion about the difference in the buzzwords Continuous Delivery, Continuous Deployment and Continuous Integration. I will try to dispel some of the confusion surrounding these processes and the key principles that identify them.

Slides to follow shortly.

Ed’s presentation synopsis

"How to create a customer support and operations infrastructure that scales beyond millions customers”

One of the core challenges at Monzo is to create an IT infrastructure that enables us to scale our customer support and business operation efforts quickly to millions of customers, while ensuring that we always deliver the best customer experience possible. This is a hard challenge due to the interconnection of technology, people and processes and the high uncertainty of a fast-growing startup. Solving it requires a technology and development approach that allows us to adapt quickly and stay productive despite a continuously growing tooling landscape and engineering team.

I’ll talk about how we approach this problem and introduce you to our React/Redux-based business operations tool. We will analyse some of the architectural decisions made to tackle the above-mentioned problem, look at the implementation of one or two advanced product features and discuss the development process required to achieve the desired results.

Slides here.

In future wherever possible we’ll add videos or audio recordings along with pictures from each event. If you have any good :camera_flash: from last night please share them here!
