Just had my first one for lunch at work - so many questions/looks from colleagues but actually it didn’t taste bad at all.
It’s not like it’s fabricated from dodgy polywhatsitetholene.
I like good food, but I don’t have the time, money, or inclination to eat it thrice a day. With Huel (and the like) you can sustain yourself on meals nutritionally balanced by professionals, and eat ‘real food’ as you call it only when there’s actually any pleasure in it.
I’m fairly convinced by Huel, much to my surprise. I replaced no breakfast with Huel breakfast, for 7 days now. I haven’t felt any drastic changes (though I’m much less hungry around lunch time, obviously), BUT, all doctors/nutritionists/dietitians ramble on about eating bloody breakfast, so I got there eventually! It’s been only 15 years since I had regular breakfasts.
I am having one this morning with a shot of Nespresso in. Quite nice actually, though I might put two shots in tomorrow!
Followed the lemmings and jumped in. I’ve replaced my lunch with Huel. Amazed how it make me feel full. I need a solution for the late afternoon hunger pangs (not more Huel) but enjoying it so far.
Generally hunger pangs come from a drop in blood sugar and this is often due to the huge amounts of sugar and carbs in the modern diet.
Carbs/sugar are digested quickly and lead to a rapid rise in blood sugar. The body releases insulin to process the sugar and the blood sugar drops, causing hunger pangs so we eat more carbs, perpetuating the cycle.
We didn’t evolve in a carb rich environment - generally sugar was a rare event but it was such a powerful energy reward that we seek it out - to our detriment now that it is so easily available.
Try eating protein and fat rather than carbs - I found that my hunger disappeared for much longer. I can go a day without eating and not be bothered, much to the amazement of my mostly carb eating friend who gets jittery within minutes of being late for a meal.
I’m a big carb eater but regularly go most of the day without eating. I often skip breakfast and lunch.
This is why I got Huel. It’s so quick and easy to prepare that I don’t have an excuse to skip lunch. Breakfast I don’t care.
But skipping breakfast and lunch is quite possibly a good thing - http://stm.sciencemag.org/content/9/377/eaai8700
Well that’s an expected link of the day. Intriguing.
I’ll send my wife that link, she keeps telling me off for not having Breakfast and Lunch.
I feel like that argument goes back and forth. Like drinking coffee. Or red wine.
Good job I don’t drink either of those or I’d be in a right quandary.
I don’t know where we are with Butter these days. Is that the healthy one or is it Margarine?
That’s interesting as I watched an episode of Horizon last night which was effectively advocating the same thing:
Effectively taking the CRON diet (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CRON-diet) as the extreme, showing that you can significantly reduce your IGF-I by fasting regularly (like the study above mentions) but that this requires significant will-power because it’s “hard”. There are studies that suggest alternate-day fasting can also work (calorie restrict on alternate days and then eat what you want on the others). Eventually the presenter settles on the “5-2 diet” which only involves 2 calorie restricted days in 7 and mentions that it makes no difference what meal that is. 3 months in his IGF-I levels were significantly lower that at the start, he had lost a decent amount of weight and reduced his % body fat by ~7 percentage points.
Ok, i get it…
I used your link, figured I’d give it a try. Might encourage me to eat a bit more
Thank you very much
I’ll shamelessly post my referral link below in case anyone is still interested

I’m interested in checking this out, seems like a good thing for lunch on the move. The thing I’m most dubious about it is the flavour - I’m not a fan of vanilla.
I’ve seen they have flavour packs and would probably check out strawberry - are there any other mixers that people use apart from the official ones?
I just ordered some from SeMond’s link above, with a Strawberry flavour pack.
So we will see! I got one Vanilla and one Unflavoured.
My link is below if anyone would like to follow the chain along
Thank you
I found the vanilla one unusable, I can’t stand the artificial sweetener flavour but I’m very sensitive to it.
The plain one is quite nice with a
The vanilla one is a bit too sweet for me too. I’ll probably stick to the plain one myself.
I tried the sample set of flavor packs and they were all pretty decent.
Except for the Rhubarb & Custard one. That one made me feel nauseous and gave me a terrible headache.
I got the Strawberry flavour pack - but in the first couple of mixes I can’t taste it?
I put the recommended amount in but notice no difference
From what I read people seem to think the flavour is normally pretty strong - so not sure why! I’ll try doubling it and see what its like.
People do seem to leave it overnight, but I want to use it for convenience, not planned meals.
