The final bill was issued on Friday and they owed a refund. The energy company cancelled the direct debit first, I was trying to avoid more money being taken.
It was the bank who reversed the direct debit, after I spoke to them on Friday, but they also paid the direct debit. As the balance has increased with my old energy company.
I’m hoping I don’t have to start calling them for a refund now. It’s a bit of a confusing approach from the bank.
If the final bill was issued Friday there wouldn’t have been time for them to cancel a direct debit payment I assume was taken today?
HSBC need to raise an indemnity for the debit taken, and then the energy company need to refund you, which is usually done by an active direct debit still standing.
The direct debit was cancelled. In the past other banks have allowed the direct debit to be cancelled. Anyway I’ll just have to wait for HSBC to sort it before I can risk moving the money that they refunded.
Let me just be hopeful for now. My switch even completed before yours, but whatever the outcome, I will just accept and won’t be on the phone or chat to ask why.
