HSBC Chat

Dinosaurs like HSBC will catch up eventually it’s just a bit slower

They could possibly infer it from the transactions, especially if Open Banking identifies transactions as FP, DD, etc.

Emma does a sort of balance after bills but I’m pretty sure that it requires you to identify which transactions are recurring.

You may be able to change the category to “Bills” and it accommodates them.

The HSBC open connected app was pretty decent back in the day, if I remember rightly it was powered via BUD which they bought, which also powers merchant logos now for both HSBC and FD.

If I could be bothered to change banks again I might’ve considered this.

I’ve got a question about HSBC if anyone knows the answer for sure, I’d be grateful.

I do a weekly online shop for my dad who has no access to the internet. He pays me back with a cheque every four weeks or so, but recently the Royal Mail have been letting us down.

Because of the no internet thing he can’t do a transfer but I thought he might be able to set up a standing order for an amount larger than needed and I can just send back the change by bank transfer.

Does anyone know for sure if a standing order can be set up over the phone with HSBC?

yeah. i’d imagine so

Alternatively, your dad could request a bank transfer to your account by phone whenever needed. This would simplify the process, as it avoids the need for a separate transfer to correct any overpayment.

Or he could get a Curve card, link his account to that and give you the card.

It’s good to know that that is a possibility, thanks.

I think I prefer the standing order option, though, as I can return any overpayment with a few clicks once he’s set up as a payee - as opposed to reading out a long list of numbers and being queried and warned about scams repeatedly.

I’ll bear that in mind, thanks.

I understand your perspective. Just to clarify, once your bank account details are saved under a designated payee name, your dad can simply confirm that payee name when making a transfer. The telephone banking operator will accept that payee name, so there’s no need to repeat your bank details each time. This helps reduce the risk of quoting incorrect account information. Hope that helps.

Your standing order would be fine, but you might wish to consider this:

It does, very much so,thanks.

Thanks. It’s something I’ll bear in mind for the future, but I think he manages the account well enough at the moment.

Or the really simple option: get a credit card that’s billed to his account. Card could be in your or his name. Basically the same as a joint account but without the issues of having a joint account.

Or be added as an additional card holder, and the debit collect in full every month.

Many options, but caution needs to be applied as no immediate access means no notice of fraud sooner than month end.

This is the answer. Don’t know why I didn’t think of it. He already has a credit card, I just need to be added as an additional card holder. Thanks.

It works really well. I had a card billed to my parents account to buy stuff for the kids and my son has a card billed to me.

Anyone able to show the money trends feature.

It’s basically a reshuffle around of the Plan tab. At the top just shows money in and money out do the month. Then below just shows spending insights (amount spent per category with the option to review against budgets). I quite like it. Also now clicking on transactions shows more information.
