Google Pixel Discussion

How could you…

Apple has been a bit boring year on year. I know you don’t have to buy a new phone every year but it’s sort of a hobby.

Last year I nearly jumped on Pixel 8, and I felt it was time to test the waters. I might be back in 3 months, or a year.

Last time I dipped my toes in the Android sea it lasted 2, max 3 months.

:100: respect for platform-shifting there.

While I can’t say :android: will work out for you long term compared to iOS (tons of personal preferences & ecosystems involved), the last few generations of Pixel hardware are :ok_hand: and getting better.

Yes, this. The ecosystem might just be what holds me back, but I intend to give the Pixel a damn good shot. I just need to find some replacement apps and bits.

I’ll be honest, every time I boot up my 4a, I get the itch to try Android as it looks good. Now I get to do that properly. I’ll miss my unlimited free backups though…

Fun fact. The AirPods Pro will work with the Bluetooth function just not adaptive function.

What do you mean?

Adaptive sound. Maybe that’s the wrong word, where it follows you based on where you turn from device etc.

Okay so…

  1. Honestly no idea, I’ve never bothered to move across my health data from iOS to Android.
  2. I use a combo of Chrome for ease and Samsung browser because it has built in adblock and it’s very very fast.
  3. See above.
  4. I have YouTube Premium so persinally not needed to check it out but I always see something called YouTube “Revanced” referenced a lot.
  5. Again I just use Chrome/Google for this. Works perfectly.

I’m sure there are several options for everything which is one of the many beelnefits of Android.

I won’t lie, I went to check if the cancel order button was still active.

I want to try Android but really don’t want the hacky workarounds of finding one of 9 bajillion apps doing the same thing; or having to sideload things.

I want it to just work :tm:

Alas, the cancel order button was no longer there.

Well there is nothing hacky or sideloading for me personally, I’ve not sideloaded an app since the early 2010s.

Everything I have set up works no different than it did on iOS.

But you pay for Google not to serve you ads, and use two browsers!

If they bundled ad-free YouTube into Google One; or made ad-free YouTube alone something like £5 I wouldn’t mind.

I’ll miss Vinegar.

I don’t think so.

If it is, it’s not easy.

I pay <£4 for YouTube premium which includes YouTube Music for both me and my wife, I paid for this when I had iPhone so it’s not relevant. And yeah sometimes I use Samsung Browser but that’s a personal choice, I’m sure you can use adblock with FireFox and use that everywhere so just one browser.

If you have regrets all ready just return it without opening.

Is that a vpn trick?

Yeah I set my VPN to Philippines then just paid with a Starling VC that I only use for YouTube Premium.

That’s being hard nerfed now so it not an option for most.

With Philippines it doesn’t even ask for an address, I only set it up a few months ago. People have been saying it’s being clamped down on for the last 2 years.
