General broadband discussion

That was in the holiday apartments in Calpe, I just thought it was a bit pathetic

The 5G is faster, but hey. It’s better than none

Similarly pathetic in parts of Leeds!

I spent a long time testing mobile options, but it’s just nowhere near reliable enough for business sadly.

Waiting for the wall units that are also a switch.

Yeah, it’s such a shame that they got rid of the extra parts on the back of the U6/U7

It’s very handy on my AC pro unit that I have currently.

I think you’ll be waiting awhile for the in wall with a switch

They already confirmed to a reviewer (I forget which one) that they are coming.

There’s definitely lots of better deals out there with new providers but I can’t get them sadly in my area because the new lines still haven’t been added

Old WiFi 5 on 5ghz

New U7 Pro on 5Ghz

New U7 pro on 6Ghz

Although it does complain that my switch is not providing enough power

Interesting what switch do you have?

(l am planning a unifi short stack).

It’s not an official switch by any means

I wanted 2.5 GB on the cheap and got this one

8 Port 2.5G Base-T PoE Switch… https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0C5D3L25K?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

It says it provides 30 W per port, Which I have no way of verifying

In Either case it seems to be working fine, It also shouldn’t damage the access point

I have decided to switch off 6 GHz, As only my phone is capable of using it and there’s minimal difference between five and 6 GHz apparently

Local network downloads are a lot better understandably

Local Plex download via wifi

Does that mean it streams faster?

What was it before? Ie the notable difference for watching Plex?

Because the Wi-Fi is now nearly line speed

The downloads on Plex can use the full capability of the hard drive in the Synology.

With several items including it was limited to about 30 MB per second On the old Wi-Fi,

Plex streaming isn’t really impacted. It’s just they downloads for off-line play that are a lot quicker.

Ah ok, I was just thinking how must faster does someone need to stream to watch a film :joy:

Ahh yeah. I get close to your numbers with my u6 mesh although I am ready to go to a u7-mesh when it drops as I will be able to replace an old AC-LR

I did consider the u6… but for the price difference it may as well be more “future proof”, £30 difference
