Got to say Aldi is winning social media right now
Brilliant
I love this whole thing. M&S are just giving Aldi some great PR.
Yeah theyâve come across really stupid to be fair. Every single supermarket has a caterpillar cake, why not go after them as well
I wonder if they sold out of Cuthbert this weekend
Really basic marketing. They will withdraw the cake, make M&S look old and stuffy as a company, and enjoy all the PR.
If they are ignoring trademark/copyright it makes you wonder where else are they cutting corners.
It doesnât, to me at least.
Itâs common knowledge that many of Aldiâs products are rip offs of other brands.
Racer Bars (Snickers)
Jive Bars (Twix)
Titan (Mars Bar)
Most people donât care, as long as theyâre getting good value.
This sort of issue is 100% never related to whether anyone cares. Other than the companies themselves, obviously.
Donât all supermarkets have a version of this though?
Yep thatâs why this has blown up so much.
Thereâs an awkward message from Morrisons after that because they forgot about them
Many? Pretty much all. Show me an Aldi own-brand product and I can probably show you the branded product theyâre mimicking.
And Iâm not taking sides, this sort of behaviour isnât just limited to Aldi. See also, Lidl:
Theyâve responded. Not backing down yet haha.
Marks & Spencer sell their own rip-off/copy cat versions of Walnut Whips. Are NestlĂŠ going to sue M&S?
M&S were never going to back down. They couldnât back down, even. It would be insane to do so. Wouldâve been a green light to everyone that you could rip off any M&S product if you give money to charity.
So there goes my plans to make Persy Pygge sweets, with 0.000000000001 penny from every pack (and where pack = the wholesale crate) goes to charity.
This guy gets it:
Ah ha they need to do better, funny though
Happy cake day, I hope youâre eating a Cuthbert
