I mean, you don’t know what monzo is working on. So just wait and see - they could have a new batch ready to launch at the same time as the metal ones. But who knows
apart from you guys at monzo of course

For what it’s worth, we do.
Not at the same time though, likely slightly before.
This is why patience and faith is key
thanks for the info @Rika
I have heard this a couple of times recently. Whilst technically correct, the majority of shops will not accept Apple Pay over £30 as it is treated the same as contactless by the terminals. However some merchants have raised the Apple Pay limit to be above £30, and hopefully more and more will continue to do so.
Whilst that may be true, I have never come across that, and I’ve been using Apple Pay since day one.
In most cases, it isn’t the shops that control their card acceptance terminals, it’s their acquirer, or acquirer partner, and some are just really bad at keeping things updated.
Most terminals nowadays support no-limit CDCVM by default, so either the shop as manually disabled it, or they’re using a really outdated terminal, or the shop person just doesn’t know that mobile payments can be used for transactions above £30.
I’ve used Apple Pay plenty of times for transactions above £30.
My experience is that pretty most all retailers don’t limit Apple Pay to £30, although many staff are unaware of this. Those that do are, in general, due to not updating systems or hardware. And then there is Tesco which seems to be trying to force you to use their app if you want to pay by phone.
I think it would be more accurate to say that the majority of shops are staffed by people who don’t really know how Apple Pay works, and that if they actually let you try then it would probably work just fine. It’s definitely not the same as contactless, as contactless is unverified (hence the £30) limit, but Apple Pay is verified (closer to chip and PIN, as it were).
