Feedback for Monzo's death process

Hi Monzo,

Opening this topic to discuss how Monzo could improve things with regards to winding up bank accounts for those who have passed. We’ve been sent a 7 page document to fill out and return which feels incredibly excessive, especially considering the amount of other forms and such you need to complete.

It would be great if Monzo had some form of portal where information can be uploaded, or certain things like asking for various people’s IDs can be sent to each person to upload directly, and then a way of knowing how much has been submitted to be “complete”. Otherwise it is just a bit of a nightmare to co-ordinate such a thing - i get there needs to be security but this is just extra legwork to do at a time where it’s stressfull enough as-is

Thanks!

Sorry for your loss. Having dealt with an estate a few years ago there were definitely some institutions that handled things better than others but most offered either online portals or fairly simple 1-2 page paper forms so it’s a bit disappointing to hear that Monzo’s is worse than the ones I experienced (Barclays, Halifax, Lloyds et al).

It would also be good if Monzo could sign up to https://www.deathnotificationservice.co.uk which can make things a lot simpler when you have multiple institutions to notify.

I’m assuming that the process and forms they were referring to - you have to fill out details on the page and then there’s a multi-page indemnity form to download and fill out that asks for much of the same details you have already given online. Compare that to the Barclays experience at What to do when someone dies | Barclays where you access a portal, give details and then upload docs, fill out a much smaller form etc.

I posted the link purely based on “It would be great if Monzo had some form of portal where information can be uploaded” - I’ve not had to go through the process myself.

And I suspect that the process may differ drastically based on the financial status of the involved:

So sorry to hear of your loss.

You may have already heard of Tell Us Once: What to do after someone dies: Tell Us Once - GOV.UK

Which can inform DWP and other Gov related services of the loss.

Nationwide and Lloyds were absolutely amazing when I had to go through this, Halifax however were awful. This was face to face in each bank.

Starling bank were fairly simply, no long forms, just wanted the certificate and a few other details - my sister dealt with this so wasn’t sure of the full ins and out.

Pretty sure mum had a monzo too which didn’t involve any long forms as far as I know.

I know this doesn’t help your situation much but thoughts are with you during this difficult time.

Yes I think this is the case. It is my partner who is dealing with it all so I don’t quite know myself so just passing on feedback I’m getting about it.
