I’m surprised that a lot more people haven’t been caught out by that fraud. Booking has loads of customers and with the fraud looking so legit I’d have expected thousands to be caught.
It likely is, but people don’t always come the internet to complain.
Anyone else enter the Curve “Cash Black” promotion? Make a purchase with your curve card over the Black Friday weekend, and you are supposed to have been entered into a draw to win £1000 or other prizes. You were supposed to get a notification on Monday (yesterday) taking you to the app where you can spin the wheel and see if you have won.
So, I made a purchase with my curve card on the Sunday afternoon. And then, nothing… Contacted their chat in the app to ask but no reply yet.
I got the notification but only one when I’d made several purchases over the weekend.
I have, twice, and had the £1 X sub for 3 months about 4 times.
Curve have just upped the prices of their premium plans which had people upset.
Now they’re removing a substantial part of the benefit (insurance) for all their tiers. They’re adding more cashback retailers but that’s still a significant cut to benefits unless you are a very big spender at specific retailers.
I don’t understand how this business continues to exist.
Unless they have new insurers on hand ready to replace them, it does look like an absolute bonfire of a business.
That sums up curves reddit moderation
They appear to have posted the change but locked the ability to comment on it. I bet they remove all discussions about it.
I would love to know why they felt that should be removed.

More cashback options isn’t a bad idea, but still not good in value if it’s only 1%.
I’m astounded curve manages to continue. They must have a decent revenue model as I can’t see why continued investment from VCs etc would be worthwhile
It’s not a great idea either. In practice I get almost all my cashback from just three of the six.
The bigger issue for me is that I saw the cashback as paying the fee (which it always did) and therefore everything else was free. Since the largest part of ‘free’ is the insurance, then with their new model this would mean that I’d be paying upfront for a potential discount (albeit which I’ve always had before).
That said, it gets me a World Elite card which itself got me a £1000 discount on car hire so I need to get a replacement for that if/when I downgrade to the free tier. Revolut metal would seem to cover that and indeed the insurance although Nationwide would do the insurance (don’t know if they do Visa Infinite though).
Asked when I can downgrade free. Reply back that they’ve passed it on to a specialist team who ‘may take some time to reply as they are very busy’.
Sounds like I’m not the only person who has quietly been using the insurance but never needed to claim so didn’t turn up on their stats (same thing with the free Nationwide insurance which ‘few people used’). And who will therefore be downgrading to free as soon after December as they can do for no charge.
Curve will have dropped it not because of lack of use I suspect, its because all insurance has gone up drastically in the past year and they might have been hit with it.
Possibly, but they have upped the charge from £150 to £180. Dropping functionality at the same time is asking for trouble.
Completely, its not good, I just think its more the cost of insurance rather than any BS about how people dont use/value it.
I truly dont think they have much margin if any at all and this is a way to offset cost.
EDIT: How long till this post disappears

I wouldn’t have minded so much if they’d put the fee up to £200 but they’re going to lose £180 from me. It just doesn’t make sense to pay £180 upfront to get it back in discounts over the course of the following year.
Until Curve nerfs that as well, at least if you drop it not you can get a refund as its a material change.
Yes, that is better in that you’re actually getting the discounts but then if I just switch to paying my main Curve retailers by amex, I get the discount without paying the fee.
What I need is for Chase to get the finger out and roll out Chase Sapphire here with travel insurance, CDW and discounts
Recently they’ve been sending multiple emails and notifications trying to push offers on premium plans to me.
