I quite like minimalist designs so I actually don’t think this is terrible. But it does look like little thought has gone into it. The placement of the logo seems to be too close to the right hand side. And why have the word debit on it? And if it has to be there, why’s it practically the same size as the logo?
Plain cards, plain black or white cards in particular, always look sleek, minimalist, and modern. Yet based on that photo, first direct have somehow managed to take that exact style and it make it look tawdry.
Gradients are all the rage these days though, and with plastic cards, I find myself enjoying those designs more. The Monzo Plus card is one of my favourite plastic cards (second only to the N26 transparent card). The new blue TSB cards are a great colour too. Never thought I’d see a bank do blue better than Barclays, but there we go.
Agreed (with the first paragraph, not necessarily the second which appeared later!)
Take Dozens Black for an example of how to do it properly.
It looks like one of the white bits out of the HBSC logo. Little nod to the connection?
Or maybe the designer (if you can call them that) thought the card was very lop-sided with the two logos on the right, and that a design element was needed on the left to balance them out.
Ahh the London 2012 Lloyds TSB debit card was the first bank card I properly used!
I did have an RBS revolve account before that though (but in those days the pocket money was spent and wasn’t put into my bank account )
I’d never really looked before, but Go Henry have some beautiful cards. This one is excellent (and I’d be very happy with it):
That is actually a really good design. Less boring than many of the current debit cards are.
The Starling bank card is the most uninspiring. Such a dull colour, and I hated the shiny finish on it. A more vibrant, matte teal would’ve been
My favourite is perhaps the TSB card but I wouldn’t touch them with a barge pole
I know what you mean I think it’s the most
Boring one in my collection! My fave ones are my monzo card, TSB and Metro
I really don’t like Metro Bank’s logo so I’m not a fan of their card. The logo itself is boring but its made even worse by the really ugly red M on a blue background. I really hate it
I currently just have Nationwide FlexAccount, Virgin Money, and Santander. A lot of red but red is a good colour. I also like the Nationwide one as it’s a dark blue. Not a big fan of light blue cards.
Slightly random but seeing the Nationwide cards reminded me of this - Why do all of the Nationwide account types have Flex in their names? Is there a meaning to it?
I think the circle are harder to see with certain light angles which is probably why they can’t be seen on that photo.
I’m not revisiting this conversation but for all the hard of understanding who keep flagging my opinion, replace some of the words in your head.
Haha i see your point lol
Can we just let this lie?
I suspect this comment of yours will be flagged too, because you’re verbally assaulting those who already flagged your previous post. It doesn’t do you any favours and the toxic cycle will only continue.
Your choice of words matters more than the perception of your audience. The dismissive and insulting language you’re using in your comments makes you guilty of the very same entitlement you accuse those of flagging your posts of portraying.
Perhaps inherit the values you’re trying to insert onto others, in that your opinion that the opinions of some groups on some topics don’t matter simply doesn’t matter, and that the exclusivity portrayed by your choice of words is violating the community rules in that we strive to be inclusive here. You’re comments proactively discourage anyone who is not disabled from taking part in a discussion on the accessibility of card design, that’s exclusion, and it’s not okay, and it’s against the rules, hence the deserved flags. Please just let it lie now and accept some responsibility so the discussion can move forward. It has otherwise been excellent.
I think we’ll take a bit of a time out.
When this reopens, let’s keep on topic. I was going to remove some posts, but I don’t think that would ultimately be helpful - but please don’t be tempted to reopen off-topic conversations. There are enough places for that type of argument elsewhere on the interwebz.
