Thank god they banned these practices in the UK. Lloyds say it’s conditional you’re paid into a Lloyds account but just change it once you have access to workday.
The unions years ago ripped NWG a new one for forcing colleagues to have accounts with them to be paid.
It’s very petty.
It’s annoying and even more so when you’re not a national and opening accounts have to be done in branches and take an hour.
They have made one improvement recently - at least in Shanghai they have little telephone desks where you’re connected to an agent over video.
They’re in a central location and have actually seen foreigners so know how to process documents. The staff in the office assist with any translation issues if it’s relevant to you.
That is really annoying. I hope these current accounts are at least fee free?
I don’t think any of them even have FX fees, but they’re all state owned banks so it makes sense that they just offer the People’s Bank of China rate. There are fees for issuing missing cards, (I lost my Shanghai one) but nothing else to my knowledge that I’ve ever paid for.
