Collected Thoughts on Card Design (Part 2)

Why not apply anyways? You don’t need credit within the next half year do you?

Because the eligibility check said I was incredibly unlikely to be accepted. That’s quite the hint that maybe I shouldn’t go through with the full application…

I could be completely wrong on this but they’re just making educated guesses, they haven’t actually pulled your full credit file to check anything.

I’ve had pretty much every card I’ve applied for down as ‘unlikely to be accepted’ yet I have three or four credit cards now. If you don’t intend to get credit within the next 6 months, it really doesn’t matter if you have a rejection on there. It falls off and a rejection isn’t the end of the world.

It’s not something to worry about unless you plan to get a mortgage soon or something.

Do you actually know about the UK credit system?

There’s no such thing as a “rejection” on your credit report. The hard check happens, and then the lender either says yes or no. But there’s no rejection marker.

And it takes between 1 and 2 years for the hard check to fall off the report, depending on the CRA.

And you’re also wrong about Nationwide making an educated guess, because I can literally see the soft check on my credit report. Both from when I’ve applied for the current accounts (before the hard check), but also from the CC eligibility check.

You are putting pressure on the young man to take a credit product the lender has already warned about not being eligible.

In some instances it is worth the shot for say Amex. But when Nationwide or Lloyds say no it’s a near solid outcome.

No, I’m saying he’s decided not to take it based on some ‘unlikely to be accepted’ and that isn’t what should stop him from making this decision.

If he thinks he can’t use credit responsibly, if he thinks he doesn’t need it or won’t use it, that is the correct decision.

Simply the lender rejecting him or being likely to isn’t a reason.

Knowledge slips with time, but generally I think so? A hard check happening while no new account actually being on your report is probably an indicator you were rejected. Not necessarily true 100% of the time, but it is probably most of them.

I also don’t think you really need to understand the credit system, as long as you use credit responsibly and aren’t going against impossible odds (applying for a card that you just don’t have the income for) and pay off the entire statement balance, is enough for 99% of people that have credit cards.

Not everyone needs to be a subject matter expert on everything they involve themselves with.

A soft check is the same in details provided as a hard check? As in it gives them the whole report 1:1?

A soft check doesnt pull everything a hardcheck does.

AIB NI want me to open a Regular Saver via online banking, so no cash card for me. I’ll be back before long, so I will absolutely try again next time I’m over.

Santander easy saver matures in 12 days so I can request cash card then.

Has this topic changed name to “collective” from “collected”?

It was! Someone’s changed the name of this chat since then.

Collective would be correct though.

With Cahoot Simple Saver does the 12 month period start from when the account was opened or if you upgrade to a newer issue, from that date?
