Collected thoughts on card design (Part 1)

That (and the green card) look wrong. Why doesn’t the fancy border extend to the bottom of the card?

Because the credit available is bottomless

They don’t hard search sideway moves but they do hard search different types of cards within Amex from what I have been told.

Eg. BA regular to BA black card is not a hard search. It replaces your blue.

BA card to Marriott card is a hard search as it’s a new card completely.

Yes, I’m sure I’ve read that before somewhere else.

Cards within the same “family” are not another hard search; other cards always are.

I do it every year. BA Blue to Black until I get the companion voucher, downgrade to Blue and get a pro-rata refund on my Black fee, use the companion voucher then upgrade again. Partner does it too, no issues.

I think the BA card is fairy unique in that not many branded cards have two levels, and you could argue that not many other Amex cards have this way of working either.

I really don’t mean to inflame things by resurfacing this part of the discussion, but it instantly made me think of this customer service call made to Asda that I saw many years ago…

(Hi again everyone btw :slightly_smiling_face: I’ve been trying to combat my crippling addiction to financial forums by going cold turkey for a bit, so if you don’t see me around again for a while that’s why!)

Fair enough!

Sometimes I have a few “days off” myself, when I have things to do or realise I’ve been spending too much time on them lately.

Healthy habits are a good thing. :+1:

It does seem like Halifax is slowly updating their card designs. I think there is a new credit card design somewhere and they have a similar design for their 11-15 year old account.

It is better than their current design but I don’t like that the Halifax “X” is on it twice (the logo itself and in the centre). Some cards can get away with this, but this design doesn’t.

Somehow I like that more than their credit card - Collected thoughts on card design - #174 by aCCount

I think I prefer the credit card, mostly due to it being Mastercard. With the “Smart Spending” card, I don’t like the diagonal from the Halifax logo, to the X, to Visa. It is less obvious with the Mastercard logo.

I was looking at Santander’s German site (there was a reason for this) and I do like their credit cards.

I think I would prefer it more if they didn’t have the Santander flame repeated so much in that top section, but overall, they are really nice.

To be fair, I don’t think the repeated flame looks bad, I think I’d just prefer it without. The flame does match the rest of the design which is quite rare for repeated logos.

What’s “the nightmarish trypophobia triggering design”?

This is a quantum leap over their current designs. Yes please!

I actually really like that one, but it’s pretty obvious it won’t be for everyone.

I do think the UK credit cards need updating. They don’t look bad, but just quite boring.

They also have the old Santander logo so I would expect these to get updated at some point.

Does anyone know why the Starling card doesn’t have the sort code on it, but it does have the account number?

Everyone at Starling has the same sort code, may have something to do with it.
